Well he helped turn Liberty into a respectable program and turned a 1-10 team into a 4x BS Champ*. Say what you want, but I think he was a great coach for LU. I have no ill will towards the man, and hopes that he's successful at UofR (Just not too successful 8) )

We are a much better program because of Danny Rocco and I can promise you that we will land a great coach. We have the resources to do it and its not like the new H.C is getting a bad team.

Liberty is a top 5 job from a resource stand point in the FBS.. I've been told that by several former assistants in the last couple of years. I'll share more later, but I got to get back to work. I think I've received about 60 texts in the last 30 mins.

These are some of my favorite posts to read. You have a great perspective NG33!

The Flames will continue to build a winning tradition!

Go LU!

GiveMe: I won't argue that with you, but do you/all you guys think the "religious aspect" of the University might be a turn off for some coaches?

Not for the coaches that we would want to hire.

Well I think obviously you want to hire a "Liberty Man" and I don't mean that in a bad way, but if there is a high level coach that is interested for whatever reason, do you think Liberty would, not necessarily bend the rules, but be more flexible to get a great coach?

At the end of the day, there is no religion in Liberty football. Any player/student can come here and get the "college experience" without having to deal with the rules we have set in place.

"Christianity as a hindrance" is an overrated concept.

It was time for him to move on anyways. He has done all he could and he will do fine at UR. I have a feeling he will run into a road block there too, but he will do fine.

Again I am thankful for what he did for this program. He did a great job, but I think both sides will benefit from this move.

Joking aside, I think there is a notion that it is a strict, religious university, atleast from outsiders.

Wish I could give you a definitive answer, but not being an insider, I really don't know.

You are partially correct. I am a LU Grad living in a very liberal area in Boone, NC. When I tell people I graduated from LU I get "the look." But, for non-religious people, the rules and things that LU Grads had to go through can sometimes be a positive thing. I compare it to a military school in some cases. We had to learn, through the rules, that there are some things that are just DUMB to do. Someone applying for a HC job will be a mature person. They will understand that our Christian affiliation can only bring good to a program, if maintained correctly.

As mentioned by SCH, any player can come into the program and experience what LU has to offer.

Money was not the determining factor. Rocco looking for a new challenge and escaping some lingering issues on the mountain are why we are now looking for a new head coach.

I wish Coach Rocco nothing but the best ... whenever he's not battling us on the field or for recruits.

This one hurts. Sorry I see this as a lateral move at best. down grade in facilities. he's willing to burn the bridges at LU to better position himself for the wake job. honestly I think he'll end up at wake eventually but i think he would have been there sooner had he been more successful in the post season with us and stayed the course a little longer. I respect coach rocco but this one i don't understand. I pray the new head coach brings us post season success but i'm pessimistic right now. if the asa thing is whats "lingering" then good riddance. sorry thats how i feel at this point.

You guys know I'm not a hater but does this mean we have bigger issues at the top?

Yeah, but there's no such thing as a clean break here at Liberty. Asa, Clark, Jerry Jr & Barber may have all had an influence on this one.

i dont think this is burning any bridges. ill wait and see for an announcement before I say that. for him to go to richmond sounds almost as if this is a mutual decision by LU and coach rocco. if this were about money, we could afford to pay him whatever he wants, as we were already giving him over 400k a year.
and i should appologize for saying what i did about are players + academic rigors of richmond. the football players are probably smarter than i think, and that might just be a bad stereotype.
