Law school disinvited to campus: Liberty University openly discriminates based on sexual orientation

Controversy sparked by the invitation of Liberty University to Western’s law school information fair flared into threats of legal conflict after Western Washington University took the invitation back Nov. 10.

The exclusion was based on Liberty’s discrimination against queer-identified people, according to a statement by Paul Cocke, director of University Communications. Administrators determined Liberty’s presence at the info fair would violate Western’s nondiscrimination policy.

To answer LUConn's question, yes...there are even those who will only identify as "queer," and become offended if you call them "gay," and in some organizations (like the Gay Christian Network) I'm involved with there's even been a push (that's been rejected overwhelmingly by a majority of members) to get the name changed from gay to queer. That said, I'm gay, not queer.

Finally, LU does NOT discriminate against homosexuals...actually just looked at the Liberty Way and it says nothing about gay/same-sex/homosexuality at all.

Not only that, but LU offers support groups for people struggling with homosexuality. Compare that with any other christian university.

On a side note, I wonder how they will work the Q into the LGBT identifier that is becoming popular; maybe part of the Queer agenda is to simply shorten the identifier to Q.

Actually there are quite a few that make the acronymn LGBTQ. I don't ever see it being shortened to Q.

My understanding is that gays and lesbians not identifying as queer tend to live their daily lifestyles within the realm of normalcy...i.e. we look/talk/act normal, just happen to be attracted to people of the same sex we are. Mainly we've assimilated into society, for the most part .

Queers tend to try to go against the norm, sort of "rage against the machine," and live on the outter fringes.

In other words, a gay man's daily life is likely to consist of work, eating, the gym, and/or hanging out with friends. A queer's daily life is likely to consist of trying to Occupy Wall Street and trying to run up an escalator that's moving in a downward direction.

This has already been discussed ...... Either you accept Gods word or you don't. God also gave you freewill.

All sin is offensive to God. Homosexuality is just one of the many things listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that will keep a person from the kingdom of God. According to the Bible, God’s forgiveness is just as available to a homosexual as it is to an adulterer, idol worshipper, murderer, thief, etc. God also promises the strength for victory over sin, including homosexuality, to all those who will believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation (1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Philippians 4:13).

I know but I don't think Atrain asked for your beliefs. I can't understand gays but what they do is their business. Its their life, and it in no way interferes with my life. I hate the word homophobe because its so overused, but some of you act as though everyone is gay and how terrible it is. It doesn't effect you. And just because someone is gay doesn't mean your child will grow up to be either.

Let them live their lives. Not everyone agrees with what you may do.

Having said that I do believe homosexuality is a sin, but its no different than hetrosexual pre-marital sex. All sin is sin in the eyes of god. And all sin can be forgive through the blood of jesus to those who repent.

Am I not allowed to attend because I believe in the Bible? If so why not? Gays / Queers whatever they want to call themselves, should be thankful they live in a country with laws based on Christian values, liberty and freedom, where Christians stand up for every ones freewill .... Each of us has to deal directly with God when it comes to our sin.

But to be honest, IM guessing ATrain would be willing to debate you about it being a sin.

I have had several roommates who were gay at company meetings, can't say it bothers me other then the fact I wish the company would spring for rooms for everyone! What does surprise me is how many co workers come up at breaks and meals and ask if I knew my roomie was Gay, like they are shocked. The majority of interactions I have had with gay men and women have been positive. You could say there is nothing "queer" about them! (sorry couldn't resist).
