Liberty University announced plans today to build a new Jerry Falwell Library. The $50 million library will be the largest building project ever planned at Liberty University, at 170,000 square feet. It will include a museum that memorializes Falwell, founder of the university and also of Thomas Road Baptist Church. Liberty’s chancellor, Jerry Falwell Jr., announced the plans.
The building will feature Jeffersonian architecture. Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2012.
Very nice. Study

Here's a Liberty link to it.

It's absolutely breathtaking what is happening at Liberty. And honestly I wish I had more years here to stick around and be able to see it all for myself. I wish they could have shown you all the inside of what the library is planning to look like. What Dr. Towns said is true, we should all be thankful that God has blessed this university and that we are blessed with leaders who seek God's will for this campus, not their own.

Hats off to the Chancellor for making this all happen.

Meanwhile, at LC, they're preoccupied showing how much they love gay people more than anyone else. Walk up to a gay person and give them a big hug!!!!

This is awesome but I've always been of the opinion to question the future of the need for all of those physical books. But I guess you need them prestige-wise. This sounds crazy though:
A new robotic storage and retrieval system will allow students to search for a book in the library catalog, use integrated technology to electronically view the books next to it on the shelf, electronically browse the pages of the book to decide if they want to use it, and have it delivered to a desk in less than five minutes.

As a current student, and as a history major, I bet the books that are described there LUconn are older, more classic books. Like for my classes I'm constantly reading things from the 1800s, things which obviously aren't digitized yet.

I don't know for sure but I hope that would hope that's somewhat right.

Nice.

So what's going to be done with the current DeMoss library? And will Pierre's name get put on something else now?

The current LU library dean has shown us this YouTube video of what NC State has (with robot), which I think will be similar to our new Jerry Falwell Library:

Sounds like a solution for the parking problem too! :D

I graduated in 05 and I barely recognize it today. I love it. Looking back to my freshman year, DeMoss was 1 story, the stadium had not yet expanded, east campus didn't exist and North Campus was still manufacturing cell phones. The only thing that remains consistent is the parking was a bad situation then too. I can not wait to see what LU will be like in 5 years.

Only 7% of the square footage will be dedicated to housing books. This thing is going to be bigger than Demoss - is that accurate?

I think DeMoss is 500,000 square feet; the new library will be 170,000 square feet, but both are 4 stories.

This will be absolutely incredible and will help everyone that is involved and invested in this university. I cannot wait to show it to recruits as they come on campus, and the entire renovation will most certainly allow us a better chance to successfully recruit in ALL areas, whether it be for new students, academics, athletics, faculty/staff, alumni giving, major donors/gifts, etc. An upgrade like this truly benefits everyone, and I cannot wait to see the campus transformed!

They interviewed students at LU and one girl said something to the effect "I'm glad we are spending this money on academics instead of football or other sports because we are here to get an education"
Another tweeted, "are current library is just fine, we should be spending this money helping people and leading them to Jesus".

smh... :nonono

What these young people are missing is the fact that this isnt being done in spite of other things like sports or leading people to Christ. Im sure there are quite a few stories (my own included) of people who came to Liberty who came to get an education but came to Christ while they were here. If our improved academic facilities draw more students to the university, they will be able to learn about Jesus through their teachers, their hall leadership, etc. Helping people and leading them to Jesus are wonderful things, but who says you cant be a world class university with world class facilities and still do those things?
