I honestly dont think so...we were discussing CCU's schedule in another thread and it really doesnt have any signature wins...LSU is at the bottom of the SEC and ECU is middle of the pack in a very average C-USA. Other than that they have a lot of average-below average teams and Sub D-I games in their non-conference. If they had gotten a win over Georgetown then maybe they get out of the opening round but otherwise, even with almost 30 wins, they probably are booking a flight to Dayton should they win the tournament

BJ... no. They're just outside of the Bubble for at larges, that doesn't make them a play-in game candidate.

They'd be 13-15, I'd think. They have a high RPI and a ton of wins. There will be at least 10 teams with close to .500 records and triple digit RPI's who get auto-bids. CCU won't be on the bottom of the seeding.

look at their non-conference D-I games

Charleston- I can give em that...they are first in their division of the SoCon and probably a favorite for the auto and possibly an at-large
Georgetown- Ranked, third in Big East, probably a lock to get in if they dont win the tournament , but CCU lost to them by 19
Charlotte- third worst in the A-10
The Citadel- midpack in the SoCon
USC Upstate- worst in the Atlantic Sun (home to soon to be BSC foe Campbell)
LSU- near the bottom of the SEC
ECU- midpack in an average C-USA (as mentioned before)
North Carolina Central- a barely above .500 Independent

a gaudy record buoyed by a bunch of wins isnt a guarantee of missing the opening round unless you are in a conference with a strong overall RPI

I second that opinion that CCU will avoid the play-in round. RPI is way too high for a 16 seed even if they were to lose their remaining regular season conference games & they won't be the last #11/#12 seeds in any at-large situation. Since the opening round plays off of those seeds/selections- CCU wouldn't be in that conversation.

It depends on what the other options might be. There would have to be some upsets in other tourneys to give us a shot to slip out of that role.

I would say no there too...Liberty's problem is the same as CCU's in my view...lack of quality wins out of conference. I dont think that having a crap ton of wins should guarantee you a mid-level seed (6-12 range) but that really seems to be the only thing that is putting the Chants where they are in the projections (Lunardi has them as a 13). Their SOS really doesnt jump out at me

Yeah, there's no way that Coastal is going to be in an opening round game if they get the Big South automatic bid...there will surely be at least more than 4 teams worse than them in the field, and probably more like 10-12...their lack of a big win will keep them out of at-large talks, but they would likely be around a 13 seed if they win out..

And LU has a pretty solid shot of avoiding the playin rounds too...especially if you guys win out or only lose one more. But a lot depends on what other teams are in the field.

No, they won't be in the 6-12 seed range, but when you end up stacking them up with whomever comes out of the SWAC, MEAC, Southland, SunBelt, and a few others, you will see that they are sure to be higher seeded than anyone that wins those leagues...and upsets in other leagues will likely lead to some other teams with resumes worse than CCU getting into the field too.

Liberty, UNC Asheville, nor Winthrop would be in the opening round in my opinion- although of course it depends on what other teams/leagues produce for automatic qualifiers..

Consider that 2 opening games involves 4 #16 seeds- the other opening round games will feature the last 4 teams selected at-large (11/12 seeds)- with a Big South conference RPI hovering between 17-19 all year the conference as a whole is ranked as high as I can recall- I think there will be 4 teams certainly worse than CCU & LU & quite possibly there would be 4 teams worse than 200 in RPI & Asheville/Winthrop could possibly avoid the opening round as well.. just my $0.02...

Coastal would be 12-14.

We would be 15-16. Could very well in a play-in game. Depends on upsets in other tourneys.

Definitely not me, but I always knew CCU wasn't as invincible as they seemed. I definitely did not foresee CCU losing at home, though, especially to G-W. My pick would have been WU, UNCA, or even CSU (would have picked LU, but we've already lost to them twice). Whoever gets them in the first round should watch the game film to figure out what the heck G-W did to come away with the victory.

Hey, with G-Webb's win over CCU, and Radford's home loss, I believe Radford is eliminated from the Tourney. Both RU and G-Webb could wind up 4-14, but G-Webb's win tonite gives them the tie-breaker.

comments or corrections?

Yes that is correct. They could end up tied if Radford beats Gardner Webb, but Gardner Webb beat Coastal so they would get the 8 seed based on the "best wins" scenario.

That's correct...the 1,2, & 8 seeds are set...and RU is eliminated. Only 1 1/2 games seperate the 3-7 spots...and I think any of those 5 teams (UNCA, CSU, WU, VMI, HPU) can finish anywhere from 3rd to 7th, though there are so many possible tie possibilities, it is hard to know for certain.
