We know for sure we've got 3 spots nailed down:

PG - Jesse
SG - Evan
PF - Burrus

So, that leaves SF and C. Who gets the nod tomorrow? Brown and McMasters?

That would be my best guess. Layer has had a lot of good things to say about Brown, and has made a point of saying Carter has improved.

Yes & Yes. Play Basketball
And Brown will lead the team in rebounding.

In interview with Nick Pierce on AD site Layer said that the starting lineup against VA Intermont will be:

Jesse
Evan
Brown
JVP (probably)
Minaya

He made a point of saying that Minaya is playing well. Obviously the surprise omission is Burrus.

Surprise...well maybe from your perspective. maybe Coach Layer saw something in what Minaya has been doing in practice that he really liked and so he thought he should get the start over Burrus.

Wow--Burrus and Carter riding both the pine in the first game.

But glad to hear that Minaya is finally bringing his A game to the hardwood. Looking forward to seeing how JVP will do in the paint with his back to the basket.

You're saying this didn't surprise you?

According to today's fishwrap, our "projected starting lineup" is 4 guards (including Carter at 6'11"):

Sanders --guard
Gordon--guard
Brown--guard
Burus--forward
McMasters--guard

Here is the link to the interview (click on "Flames Audio")

It's not short. He interviews Jesse first, and then Layer. The part about the lineup is at the end. When he said "Dave" would be starting it took me a while to realize it was Minaya, since he has been so off our radar. I'm with CJ in saying it's good news he is playing well. Hope it translates to the games this year.

BTW, the media player they are using for their audio only interviews stinks. It doesn't tell you how long the segment is or how much time left, which IMHO is really annoying.

A 4 guard lineup? Is BeTray back in town?

The fishwrap with a typo? That would never happen.

If Intermont's 7-footer is also a guard, it sounds like Layer is matching up Carter with him. :nod

It was a typo. And that was my fault. As for the lineup, I guessed at it. I was trying to get that little info box done on Wednesday night before I left the office, the game notes weren't out and Layer wouldn't commit to a starting five when I asked him about it last week.

Lang, so Layer's interview mentioning David & JVP starting is more accurate and up to date?

Correct. That's what Eric has in the game notes, too. My last interview with Layer was last week. Didn't have a chance to catch up with him this week because of all of the football duties on a travel week, and I needed to get women's basketball written as well.

I'm a little surprised at Vander Pol getting the start, only because Layer didn't say a whole lot about him when I talked to him. Frankly, if Liberty was playing anyone other than an 0-3 NAIA Division II team, MBB might have taken higher priority this week. But football kind of trumps everything at this point. We won't have anyone staffing the game because I'm leaving in a few for Conway and all of our other staffers are caught up in high school football.

Not at all surprised by McMasters not being in the starting 5. I would be surprised to see him get 20 minutes a game this year. I've always like JVP over McMasters, and I don't think McMasters will ever be the banger he'll need to be in order to compete at a competitive level at his position. Big surprise for me is Burrus. He's the most muscular body, IMO, on our team, and can play with the bigs. But if he becomes the 6th man coming off the bench, then our season is looking better and better each day.

And even BJ is away, down at Myrtle Beach.
