Game Time against St. Francis Moved to Noon

On Thursday, the Liberty University Athletics Department announced it was moving its home opening football game against St. Francis, Pa., to Lynchburg City Stadium. Today, the Department has announced the game time has been changed to a Noon kickoff on Sept. 4.

I remember parking being an issue at City Stadium back in the day when freshmen couldn't have cars and buses made up a major portion of student transportation. So I am assuming that getting to the stadium for a tailgate brunch would be a near necessity.

And once inside the stadium, is Poke-E-Joes going to be available? Inquiring minds want to know, HMO.

City Stadium only has 700 parking places. For big events cars are parked for blocks along all the surrounding streets. Shuttle busses and anything else they can think of will need to be used to get people there without using the precious parking spots.

If I were a betting man I would side with the noon start having to do with logistics of getting people to & from the stadium. That has to be quite an undertaking.

My guess: It has to do with the angles of the sun at City Stadium. Much like Coastal doesn't like to host 3:30 games because the sun blinds half of the stadium. Playing at noon will keep one team from getting the glare. I could be completely wrong, but it may be the reason.

What are the lights like at City Stadium? My guess is its been awhile since they were upgraded. Noon start might be to avoid having to depend on those...

Lights are pretty decent over there. They havent proven to pose a problem for games that Ive been over there for (broadcasting EC Glass football games)

Lang explains the reason for the NOON kick off:

* The St. Francis game, as the school announced Sunday, will begin at noon Sept. 4. The biggest reason for the change in game time (it was originally 7 p.m.) is because of the lighting situation at City Stadium and how it affects Liberty’s television broadcasts. There was some thought of playing the game at 3:30 p.m., but it tends to much hotter in the late afternoon than it is earlier in the day, and there’s concern over the way the glare and angle of the late afternoon sun would affect players and fans.

Spoke with someone in Athletics. 400 out of the 700 spots are reserved for Flames Club members with parking passes. The other 300 are first come first serve. Gates will open about 9 am and you are allowed to tailgate as long as you do it by your car.

LORETTO, Pa. (Aug. 16, 2010) - Tomorrow's 2010 Red Flash Football Media Day will, for the second year in a row, be streamed live on www.goRedFlash.com, so Red Flash fans unable to make it to the event will be able to follow along from their computer!

The 2010 Media Day is the first in the career of head football coach Chris Villarrial, who enters his first season as head coach of the Red Flash. It also marks the beginning of the first season that the champion of the Northeast Conference will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I (FCS) playoffs, with the chance to play for the national championship at stake.

In addition to Coach Villarrial, the team's six captains will also take questions from the room: offensive lineman Chris Buzas (Erie, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep), linebackers Scott Lewis (South Fork, Pa./Bishop McCort) and Matthew Parker (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk), wide receiver Omar Winston (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland South), running back Jude Yearwood (Elkridge, Md./Howard), and tight end Ryan Zarnich (Rochester, Pa./Rochester).

The press conference is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 12 p.m. from the student lounge in the John F. Kennedy Student Center on the Saint Francis campus. The stream will be available at this link.

Two things:
1- Jeff Barber announced tonight, at the Chancellor's cookout for the freshmen, that the game will be on MASN.

2- Anyone out there that is planning on tailgating at City Stadium, the students will begin bussing in at 9:30. If they drive, they have to park at Scaremare and walk up. If doors open at 9 AM, are you thinking a breakfast tailgate? What are your thoughts about holding the GA seats while we have our tailgate eats and play. I am just wondering. . .students coming in at 9:30, but we want to have our pancakes, sausage, biscuits, etc. (or hot dogs and BBQ), but we need to hold seats somehow. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Thoughts anyone?

Red, I drove past the stadium at about 6:30 last night, and the entire east campus side was PACKED with freshmen wearing RED and learning all of our traditional LU cheers. It was a beautiful sight (and sound).
