I can promise you mike brown can't put one foot in front of the other at the pace and for the amount of time that sam does.

Mike would probably smoke Sam at 100m and possibly 200m. With some training, he might be competitive at 400. Anything longer is a no contest for Sam.

By the way, my favorite conversation over the past few months was with some guy who thought Dale Jr. was a great athlete (on par with Olympians) because he drives a car really fast and he gets really hot while he drives.

Is this before or after he pounds a 12 pack?

They don't have to be in any shape whatsoever, but some guys are very close to being that fit.

By that logic, Dale would actually be good at this:

Siim Tuus wins best Newcomer. I think the fact that a tennis player has won two of the past three years for best newcomer highlights the great job Coach Johnson does of bringing in talent to play on the teams.

Its a close race between Jordan Jenkins and Tiffani Smith (with Devon Brown a distant third)

Chelaine MCCarty was HM All-American and she only has 3% of the vote? That just ain't right.

Yeah, Chelaine should definitely receive some more consideration from voters, however I think Jordan Jenkins has a great case for winning this one.

No argument here. For me this was the toughest category to pick so far. However, I think that earning HM AA status deserves a little more love than she's getting from the fans.

I love Mike Brown.

Now let's get real.

Sam Chelanga won not 1, but 2 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS this year. He was the outstanding male athlete in our entire conference, which I assume was a vote by representatives of the schools and/or the press. This just goes to show how silly it is to call someone "best" based on an internet poll.

How does LU present these awards? I think it would be cool if they did it like the ESPY's. 3-5 nominees with highlights of those individuals/performances on the big screens at Vines. They could do it at the end of the school year (exam "study" weekend?) and charge $5 entry and throw in a free drink or popcorn with purchase. It would be a good way for the students and community to take ownership of the players and teams, and the university as a whole.

Maybe even have a "Fan Vote" for their favorite player. Leave the other awards to the knowledgeable "Academy" or whoever decides these things. The players/coaches could give an acceptance speech. And the boosters and donors could get special recognition at some point in the evening, preferably at the end. "And let's not forget who makes all this possible. You the fans, and your tuition dollars, but also our donors and sponsors. "A" is an alumnus of LU and has done "B" in life. He donated "X #" of dollars towards the Williams Stadium expansion. Let him know how you feel Flame Fans!" Round of applause/cheering. And pray no one throws anything.

Not that Sam cares ONE IOTA about this, but maybe I should have pressed for Sam to get a few more votes on here. He ended up losing by less than 5 votes. Whatever. I'm sure he doesn't even know what a "Sparky" is.
