I have seen a huge spike in Foursquare usage the past month or so here in Houston while Gowalla seems to be treading water. That's sad because I enjoy Gowalla considerably more.

I've been in Lynchburg for two and a half weeks and I'm already mayor of one place here. Either Lynchburgers aren't using Foursquare that much or my in-laws eat out WAY too often ...

Just added a pair of TOMS shows to my loot from Gowalla.

Gowalla seems to be really picking up steam in Europe but not here in the States. I really don't get why Foursquare continues to dominate Gowalla because the user experience at Gowalla far exceeds Foursquare. Oh well. Thankfully Gowalla seems financially set and is getting even more creative all the time. Eventually it will catch on.

Incidentally SCVNGR appears to be gaining some steam now as well. Not sure i am ready to jump on their bandwagon despite using it off and on for months.

eh, svngr seemed to just take what others are doing and throw it together. Foursquare, gowalla, mytown were all great and different. The latest ones are just rip offs. I havent hardly used gowalla but after you getting TOMS I think im going to have to start. How did you get the stuff?(obviously, tho I have the app, Ive never opened it haha)

That being said, I think the location based gaming frontier is about to blow up with Facebook adding places to its mobile app. Still not a game from what I can tell, but will definitely legitimize what millions have already been doing
