-- Kentucky's John Calipari isn't the only college coach who's showing interest in West Jessamine star Jarrod Polson [as a walk on]. Colts Coach Damon Kelley said he's recently been contacted by Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, Nichols State, Montana State, and Liberty about Polson.
Polson is visting Coach Layer in Lynchburg this morning. Layer just grabbed some fruit and is sipping on a coffee.

So I assume this means Weaver is gone :?:

I dunno, but I guess this means someone should start a prospect thread for Polson now. I would, but technically I'm not allowed to be on the internet at work anymore  So I keep my time online limited to when my boss is in his office or outside on a smoke break.

Jarrod Polson and Kentucky?

There has been a lot of internet chatter today about West Jessamine senior Jarrod Polson and a potential meeting with the University of Kentucky staff on Thursday.

I talked with West Jessamine coach Damon Kelley a few minutes ago and he said Polson has been invited to come to campus and talk with the coaching staff Thursday afternoon.

"After that he's going to play some pickup with the guys that are always there playing pickup," Kelley said. "It's not a tryout or workout, he's just playing some pickup."

Kelley said he has talked with a member of the UK staff but didn't want to speculate on what the discussions might be when the 6-foot-2 Polson chats with the Wildcats.

And here is some really fresh news ...
WKYT.com wrote:West Jessamine standout Jarrod Polson has been offered a preferred walk-on from Kentucky and will make a decision next week.
Polson met with UK coaches two weeks ago and has been playing pick up games with Cats since that time.
Colts coach Damon Kelly confirmed with 27 Sportsfirst the offer and that his player has a decision to make.
Polson has interest from other universities, such as Morehead State, EKU, Nichols State, as well as Liberty where he is currently on a visit and has a full scholarship offer.

There is a video clip on the page that shows a little video of Polson game action.

Come on. I know it'd be cool to be a part of a deep tournament run with Kentucky, but how often do they play walkons? Free ride + PT > having to make new friends every year.

It depends on UK's standing with the NCAA investigative branch. Remember the Unforgettables? Considering who is coach right now in Lexington, he might be a starter for them in a couple of years once the infractions start flying.

Dude, what he is pulling off now in recruiting can't be legal ... not even the glory days of Carolina & Duke did a school start snaring the 2-3 players in a class all by themselves. Considering his history and the microscope he is now under, it is just a matter of when not if.

The glory days of Duke and Carolina didn't have the top recruits forced to go to college.

Callipari is 100% fine with having a new team every year. He tells these guys come here for a year and go pro. That's all we expect out of you. That's how he's doing it.

Depends on the kid. If his family has bled Kentucky blue for generations he might be perfectly happy being the guy at the end of the bench who 20,000 fans are chanting for at the end of every blowout win for 4 years. I would guess a lot could also depend on his financial situation.

Polson sounded emotionally swept away by UK's interest.

"I was ecstatic," he said. "Just playing with them in general is pretty awesome. It's a crazy feeling."

Unlike Justice, Polson sounded willing to accept any terms from the UK coaches. "I don't think I can turn down being a walk-on or a scholarship player," he said.

Add to that the fact that the guys who have done it before with him are all winning NBA rookie of the year or about to be the first pick in the draft, and you can see why he is signing them.

He at least came for a visit. That's big for us. If we can get a player here we have a good shot at getting them.

It's going to be awful hard to compete with Kentucky (even as a walk-on and no garuntee of seeing the court) but it sounds like he's interested in a Christian school, there are none better than us.

If the kid is a Christian and wants a strong academic/basketball program, I hope coach knows to drop the name of ROB ATTAWAY.

Of course there is also this comment from Dad:
Jarrod Polson, who led West Jessamine High to this year's Sweet 16, remains hopeful that he'll receive an invitation to be a walk-on with the UK team next season, his father said.

George Polson said his son has done well in pickup games with UK players. But UK Coach John Calipari, who has been busy on the recruiting trail, has not yet made a decision on whether to invite Polson to join the team.

"He definitely wants to go there," the elder Polson said. "All they have to do is ask."
Jarrod would be happy to accept being a walk-on or scholarship player, his father said. Other schools have suggested the walk-on route. But Jarrod would want a scholarship anywhere else, his father said.
