I wouldn't say it rewards laziness and irresponsibility, at least not directly it just isn't allowed to differentiate whether a person is either of those things. Which makes sense. We complain about the dude rolling up to Food Lion in his BMW, paying for his groceries with food stamps. But if his income level qualifies, he gets them. You can't tell him what to do with the rest of his money.

a person who can afford a bmw shouldn't qualify. i think thats the point. a 50k car is a 1k a month payment....we spend 225 bucks a month on groceries. you can't drop down to a kia with stock rims and by your family groceries? i agree, we cant tell him what to do with the rest of his money, but we certainly shouldn't be giving him any of ours.

make it more personal....your next door neighbor says he can't pay a hospital bill so out of the goodness of your own heart you pay that bill for him. the next day he comes home with a brand new tv, ps3, and sound system...you are going to be all kinds of wtf. and probably won't help the guy the next time.

is this you?

If I personally give someone money, you're darn right I'm gonna tell them what to do. But when the government is giving someone some kind of welfare, they really can't tell them what to do. So all of their food is free, and now the rest of their income is now for whatever they want. On top of that, their food is waaay beyond what I can afford. Which annoys me because good food is very expensive. But again, is the government gonna be like we'll pay for your food but it's gonna be hotdogs and spam. No, they need fruits and veggies and what not which is what kills my wallet at the store.

they can't but if you ask me, they should. just like when they took over those banks...thats our money, we the people through our elected officials have a vested interest in seeing a return on that investment and should be able to have a say in what you do with the bailout/any other money you have (remember the ceo getaways they claimed were from "non bailout" money)that investment pays its dividends by either the banks making a profit again and people turning their lives around, no longer requiring assistance and contributing to society instead of draining it. the welfare program wasn't designed as a permenant situation for people...it was supposed to be temporary. yet i know and grew up with a few people that had parents who were on it their entire child lives and were just cool with it....
