As the original LU Armchair Coach, I’ve watched enough Liberty basketball to know the difference between hype and a legit problem—and this new version of the Gamecocks is definitely the later. With Ray Harper on the sideline and definitely an enemy of HCRM this game will be must watch matinee at Liberty Arena. That said, experience matters, and the Flames still found a way when it counted. Not pretty, not easy—but a win is a win. I will say Flames 85, Gamecocks 78.

He looked much better in the last 2 games. The kid has really good instincts. It just looks like he over thinks things and thats what gets him in trouble

Weird… I feel the opposite when I’m at the games at times. His play so far this year has been the best of his career. He’s making an impact on both sides of the floor and he’s VERY athletic (I know SOME on this board won’t admit it), but he is. I’d say the only guy more athletic is JJ Harper, whom I think is an upgrade over Maughmer.

Where I feel Cleveland goes awry at times is when he’s “feeling himself” a little too much. He gets a little over excited and brings the ball down on offense too quickly and makes a bad pass or loses possession. There are other times when he does the opposite though and makes a play. Overall, he’s been far more consistent this year with making good passes and not turning the ball over. AND unlike past years, he’s nailing his “poster” dunks.

Totally agree about the ‘feeling himself”. It sorta goes to my point. Hes *thinking* about what else he can do to be cool or whatever. It also manifests itself when he gets the ball and dribbles 50,000 times backing down to the block. Charles Barkley he isnt :D It could also translate into his sub par free throw shooting. Smart players, which i believe he is, can over think at the line.
This is in NO WAY saying i dont think he s a fantastic player. He is. I hope he continue to do awesome things

I see what you mean now. He is NOT Charles Barkley, but he does have a little bit of the attitude at times. When he does something big he let's everyone know it, which I like. I think LU could benefit from a little more attitude/moxie.

His free throw shooting is part technique and part mental I think. His left hand doesn't really do much when he's shooting. A lot of good shooters keep their opposite (stabilizing) hand on the ball to help it stay balanced on the shooting hand. He straight up takes his left hand off the ball and I think that causes the ball to roll off of his right hand incorrectly.

I’m glad his left hand doesn’t do anything on his FT. From my pov it’s mostly mental but he does sometimes keep the ball on his palm and not his fingertips. His follow through footwork is also inconsistent. He fixes that…..dang he’d be unstoppable
