What do you guys think? The media pundits are all over the map on this. I thought he said what he needed to say, and the proof will come later with actions (which he made a point of saying). Criticizing him for reading it or for his "robotic" delivery is silly IMHO. The guy is a golfer, not a politician or an actor.

Most criticism has been focused on him being unwilling to take questions. Reading a canned statement that dozens of PR hacks have crafted really isn't much to get excited about. But now Tiger will use this public statement as an excuse to never answer any questions on the subject again ... "I've already discussed that and I want to focus on my gold game right now".

OK Sly, so let's go back in time to when you were a sports journalist. If you were there and had the opportunity, what would you have asked him?

It's impossible for anyone in the media who has gone to journalism scool to give him credit. They're so egotistical acting like he "owes" them something or that he "owes" them the chance to answer questions. Journalists are all the same in that sense.

Following his public apology Friday for cheating on his wife Elin, Tiger Woods' mother stepped out in her son's defense, hugging him and telling him she is "proud" of him.

Later, Kultida Woods spoke to reporters, saying that just like the game of golf, her son, 34, "wants to get better ... He will start getting better ... it's just like that. Golf is just like life, when you make a mistake, you learn from your mistake and move on stronger. That's the way he is."

She said her son, 34, has been treated unfairly.

"I am upset the way media treated him like he’s a criminal," she said. "He didn't kill anybody, he didn’t do anything illegal. They've being carrying on from Thanksgiving until now, that’s not right."

She said her son will survive the sex scandal, in part with help from Buddhism.

"Buddhism teaches you to go deep inside your soul and look through from himself, and correct the bad thing to be a good thing," she said. "When he realized, he said okay, and went back to practice Buddhism and that will make him a much better person."

"Hey, Tiger. What's with all the lying and coverups?"

Yeah, that's real specific.

He addressed the root issue, which was his infidelity and the sense of entitlement it stemmed from. News flash....... men who cheat on their wives lie and cover up.

He has been in a rehab program which appears to be using a 12 step AA model. His public statement was step 9. The reference to Buddism relates to steps 2,3 and 11 and the need for assistance from a "higher power". Am I a big fan of Buddism? Of course not. Are there teachings in Buddism and almost every other religon which can be useful to a person as they try to deal with bad behavior? Yes. Is Tiger a "sex addict"? Probably not in the sense that we generally think of addiction, but that doesn't mean that this program can't help him change his behavior; and as far as saving his family is concerned, that's what matters.

My response to the whole thing: Why do you really care??? Its his life, let him live it-he didn't do anything illegal, there are athletes in basketball and football who do much worse and don't get this much crap-worry about his performance on the golf course.
