Interesting thought. Please expound. Thanks.

I agree. Jeff Barber has little to no track record in terms of hiring. He brought in a women's soccer coach who turned around the program in a short term sense, and a basketball coach who has a ragtag bunch of leftovers from his previously successful but uncommitted coach playing in the top half of the conference... and Toman, right? Who has been a success with baseball. Don't know who else he's hired, but so far he's definitely shown he's not bad at hiring, nothing amazing yet, but nothing bad, either. If you want to go prior to the Rocco hire, you can't compare that to the current administration... apples to oranges. We're much more likely to get another Rocco or better than we are to get a coach like a coach that shall remain nameless who coached the team that plays on grass with shoulder pads when you were a student, BYD.

I wouldn't say it was a bad hire, as much as it was just a bad situation by the end. And in a way, it got us Layer, so that's something (although not a part of JB's plan to begin with, I'm sure.)

I hate to be that guy, but your post insinuates that pre-Rocco can't be compared. Technically, neither can Rocco's hire be used a judgment of Mr. Barber's hiring capabilities. Rocco was brought in prior to JB.

I was trying to say Karcher without saying Karcher. Rocco is a special case, and I don't attribute him to JB. If it was JB's hire, you'd have to say he's doing really well so far.

Ok, so now that the Rocco fiasco is over, how bad does ECU look? I mean, it's not like they didn't see Holtz's eventual departure coming. It's like they had no plan whatsoever. People are turning them down, there's new candidates everyday it seems like.

I think that's a good hire for them. He's an alum and was the interim coach at Texas Tech. Could certainly be worse.

I was impressed with how McNeil handled himself during the whole Leach fiasco. I got the impression that if it had been up to the players he'd have gotten the permanent job in Lubbok. Great to see him get a head coaching opportunity.

Ruffin didn't exactly do a bang-up job in Lubbock. He's fortunate to be working right now and is thrilled he holds a degree from ECU or he wouldn't have likely been in running.
