If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

I honestly didn't mean to start this up again by questioning the OP. While I don't understand it, it doesn't bother me that much if an LU alum is a bigger fan of another team they have followed since they were a kid. However, the term "we" implies it's more than just "you". Yeah, we welcome "outsiders" here, but the name of the site is FLAMEFANS, and that's who "we" are, so when you type "we", I think "we" should be able to know you are talking about LU and it's fans, not UNC or anyone else.

It bothers me, greatly.

atrain....this is not about LU being first choice. if he graduated from LU he should be pulling for LU over carolina. its that simple. if He has a degree from carolina, then i can understand it he has to make a choice. i have been a UVA fan since i was a kid. i love the orange and blue. however when LU plays UVA...it's LU all the way. have some pride already. It's certainly ok that he pulls for carolina and i would expect him to do so all the time except for when they play LU.

And although I think SJ makes a valid point about whether or not it is really appropriate for fans who never went to the school to use the term "we" at all, I think at the very least it should be reserved for a forum where it is understood what "we" means. On here, IMHO the first person plural pronoun should be reserved for LU teams and their supporters, unless you have clearly identified yourself as an "enemy".

My first and only, even when offered scholarships elsewhere.
Ditto to all the above

You're right, it is kind of stupid but a lot of people us we when referring to their team. I guess I used we to indicate that Carolina is my favorite team. If my original post had said, "They suck.", then I could have been mistaken for a Dook fan. I really didn't try to get everyone upset here. I'm a Liberty fan but I still have my loyalty to the team of my youth. Liberty was my school of choice but only because my other options were schools like Bob Jones and Pensacola where most of my classmates went.

I was offered scholarships from nine schools. I chose Liberty. I was, and stil am, a HUGE Ohio State fan. OSU did not give me an offer. If LU played Ohio State I would be rooting for the Flames. I love The Ohio State Buckeyes, but I AM a Liberty Falme!

My teams are: Red Sox, Celtics, Redskins and Tar Heels. Those will never change. I went to LU and pull for the Flames but that doesn't change my loyalties. You can get upset about it and I understand where you're coming from. It is what it is.

Another reason I would pull for Carolina is because they're my favorite college program and they have a lot more to lose. They legitimately compete on the national stage in the major sports. Their national ranking and post-season seeding would be decreased with a loss to Liberty. While LU would have a lot to gain, it's not going to push them into a position to be nationally ranked. I wouldn't be upset if LU won, I'd just be pulling for the Heels.
So why didn't you GO to Carolina, so you could LEGITIMATELY root for them?

Did you read the rest of the thread before posting? My grades weren't good enough to go to Carolina. I knew that a state school would never be an option because my parents wouldn't pay so I never tried in school. I had a 1240 SAT but a C average because I was very lazy and knew I could get into the only school I was applying to, Liberty.

I read it. Just still shaking my head about how anyone could root for a school that rejected them/never went to over the school they graduated from.

Even if hell froze over and Lynchburg played Kentucky in men's basketball, I wouldn't cheer for Kentucky to beat Lynchburg.

We have people like that at Asheville as well. One guy said he would root for Duke over UNCA because a loss to Duke would mean more than a win for UNCA. That people would never let him forget about Duke losing to UNCA. (Similar to the way we aren't going to let UNC fans forget about College of Charleston.) I went back last year for homecoming and was hanging out in the dorms and one guy said he wasn't going to the homecoming game b/c he had to watch UNC / Maryland on TV. Get out of here, dude.

I grew up a diehard Duke fan. My parents went to Duke. I still am a diehard Duke fan. But during the Duke / UNCA game last year, I was yelling at the officials to call a foul on Duke, calling Paulus a flopper, saying "Hey Gerald, Don't miss it!" when he was at the free throw line (K didn't kick me out), etc. I wanted UNCA to win by 30.

I'm kind of like Adam as well, but I think you get a pass for grad school. I went to UNC (dark period of my life), but my time there actually made me hate the Tar Heels even more. It's a good school and I met some good friends there, but I'm a Duke fan. No way of getting around it. But just because I'm a Duke fan doesn't exactly mean that I wanted to pay 50K per year when I could get roughly the same education eight miles down the road at a much, much cheaper price.
