Defend his player from what, exactly?

An opposing fan telling him not to miss a free throw? The comment could have conceivably come from a UNC fan. He also would be telling Deon not to miss (or make, whatever you want to call it) a free throw.

It was a punk move on Roy's part. Being a product of a liberal arts education, I'm all for opening myself up to other points of view. But I really don't see how this isn't basically universal. You can still like Roy Williams and say that he overreacted in this one particular instance and handled the situation awfully.

Do you think Roy has created a distraction for his players now? The next time someone yells something while they are attempting a free throw, are they going to be more aware of it, whereas before they would have been able to ignore it as a "normal" game situation?
