Correct me if I'm wrong, but TRBC doesn't stress tithing too much do they? I remember hearing from someone at TRBC that they did a series on financial stability or something like there and never taught on tithing. I could be wrong, but that could be part of the problem. It'd be interesting to see the average attendance of TRBC against the average tithe per week.

I see what you said, you gave it as an example as a separate cost

your numbers would not surprise me....

I hope there is no truth to this. A church has no business going into debt.

I don't know what it's been like for the past year, but Dr. Falwell used to be HUGE on tithing. They'd have a tithing dinner every year where the members would make a commitment as to how much they would tithe. And Doc ALWAYS put his money where is mouth was.

I think I remember Pastor Jonathan saying in a sermon that giving is something he found it difficult to talk about...I forget what his reason was though

yes TRBC is in debt, but they have over 50 million in assets, and Jonathan announced a plan about increasing tithing. The Lord has blessed TRBC and it will continue to thrive, but we should all pray for TRBC when we pray for LU.

TRBC has an excellent staff and many great members. They may need to make a few changes but I'm sure they will be fine. With the history of LU's financial troubles, TRBC has access to some people very familiar with money being tight and how to solve the problems.

We talked about the whole issue in one of my classes a few weeks ago, although it was very vague with no details.

The cost of those props in relation to the debt is minuscule. This is not a problem that has just surfaced overnight. But as smoothie points out, this is not as dire as some are making this out to be. It will just require some tough decisions.

Me and my dad talked a few years back about how LU being out of debt could be a curse for TRBC because when he was in school in the 70's as well as the times in the 80's and 90's Doc always reminded people to take care of the students and tithe more and everything, But that seemed to die off a little in the 2000's and completely when Jonathon took over.

Like think about all the convo's where an LU alumni from the 70's or 80s spoke, they always talked about God providing this and that through someone in the church or whatnot, but you rarely hear those stories anymore

TRBC's finances definitely need serious prayer.
I can't imagine Caner letting that happen without raising a stink. I think the Seminary is in the perfect place.
ITS OFFICIAL: the seminary is moving back to the old TRBC site. jerry jr announced it in convo today.

he did not say, but i would probably assume not until next august. i think the spring would be way too soon to move an entire seminary.

out of curiosity, how does that benefit TRBC's bottom line: lease/rental income from LU?

in which case, why would LU do that if they already had the facilities on campus?

I'm sure LU will either lease the property from TRBC or buy it outright, and I can't imagine they would do it unless they had other legitimate uses for the space where the Seminary is now.

I'm trying to understand the logistics of this. I assume basic religion courses will stay on the main campus, because everybody has to take them. And that would be crazy to require people to travel across town for one class. So are the profs going to have to commute back and forth depending on what level class they're going to teach? That seems annoying.

Yeah this doesn't make sense to me. Off the top of my head, Towns, Early, Wheeler, and Caner all teach undergrad and seminary classes. Making them commute is going to throw things off completely. I know we're out of space in the seminary now and we've outgrown what we have, but the old TRBC just doesn't make sense.

That sucks for future religion courses, because as someone else stated way earlier and Luconn just brought back up, Many of the best undergrad profs were Seminary profs which wont be as easily available. They're now practically losing professors for Pastoral Leadership classes, Bible Classes, Greek Classes, etc. etc.

Jr. said "bought the OLD TRBC campus" in convo today. He may have meant lease or rent, but he said bought, FWIW.

Don't like what specifically? And please cite something that isn't someone else's conjecture.

EDIT:

Ah, why bother? It's Flamefans. Conjecture is what y'all do.
