Except when it doesn't. Which is kind of the problem for me with H1N1. It's a small risk, but it's still a risk.Besides, I don't want to put him through that. I like vaccines. Big fan, in fact.

Got swine flu. Been under the weather for 2.5 days (the symptoms started middle of the day on wednesday) and should be pretty close to 100% by tomorrow. It's not that bad really. Sure it sucks, but I've had sicknesses that are 10x worse. I would take the Swine Flu over whatever it is I had over Christmas Break last year - that put me on the bend for at least a week and nearly forced hospitalization.

to each their own, but i've seen people sicker off the vaccine than by h1n1 or the flu itself. a guy at works 6 yr old was hospitalized because of the crap in the nose. yeah no thanks.

Were you tested positive for it? I'm not doubting you, I'm just asking. I'm really trying to keep up with how many people I'm in contact with around Lynchburg who have had had it for sure.

I've talked to several parents this week who were heartbroken with having to see their kids be so sick. I've heard it both ways from you folks on here and people I'm around. Just doesn't seem to be universally bad or easy for anyone so far as I can tell.

I wouldn't do the active virus vaccines (which is what the nasal type is) because of exactly that problem. I don't follow the logic in getting those at all. Inactive vaccines are the way to go.

there is no for sure thing....vaccination doesn't even mean you won't get it. i was vaccinated to the hilt when i was a child, my youngest brother wasn't hardly at all....my parents said one was never sicker than another. i'm not a healthcare conspiracy theorist (NO VACCINES THEY ARE THE DEVIL) but i am a firm believer that we need to expose our children to some things so that their immune system has a chance to build.

Didn't say there was. I just said I don't understand choosing the active vaccine over the inactive if you're getting one. It would seem to me inactive is the way to go.

I got my kids vaccinated last week as well (injection, inactive strain) My wife and I really struggled with the decision, but chose it in the long run. Certainly understand those that choose not to. But our decision came down to this...our kids are at school, daycare for a little while after school, Sunday school, Awana's, and sports teams....their chances of coming in contact with H1N1 are very high. If they were to get H1N1, above and beyond the obvious possibly serious risks of the flu itself for children, it is a huge inconvenience to the family. If they were to be out of school for 5 days (recommended by most doctors), both kids will end up with it, so 10 days total out of school for the kids, then both my wife and I would probably end up with it as well......therefore, both my wife and I are looking at being out of work for a very extended period of time.
And from what I have heard from other parents whos children have had it, their kids were absolutely miserable during that time. If I have the opportunity to prevent them from being that sick, I am going to.... we chose to go with the vaccine.

That was our choice, and each family has to make theirs....

Come on. You're a big fan just to counter all of the anti-vaccine crazies.

I keep medicine down to a minimum and germs at a high level to keep my natural immunity strong just in case I ever find myself living in a Red Dawn situation where I don't have access to modern medicine. WOLVERINES!!!!!!!!!!!!

makes sense.. our kids stay at home all day long for the most part. 2 trips to the library a week, to the grocery store once and 2 trips to church is basically it.

Same reason here. I get a lot less sick than all these people I know that take all these medicines and use this antibacterial hand lotion/soup and all that hogwash.

Partially. But herd immunity works. I don't mind doing my part.
