Rue, have you checked out DishNetwork? That's who I go with, and they are usally cheaper than Direct TV.

Direct TV wanted to charge us $15 more (once the introductory offer concluded) for virtually the same package.

what if in the rare case they don't want satellite or even cable tv? i know it's rare, but i know a few folks like that, even know a few that don't even own a tv.

I very nearly became a Dish customer when they were offering their HD-only packages in the $25-50 range. I probably would now if they still had them, but they scrapped them for some reason. Not interested in paying for any SD content.

some of these channels are ridiculous. one was designated to the 24 hour party celebrating the 250th anniversary of guinness beer.

I have thought about going back to Comcast so I can get the Liberty channel again and watch more Flames sports, but I think I would miss the way you can see what is on each channel at the top of the screen on DirecTV. I never could stand channel 99 waiting for the channel I wanted to see what was on to come scrolling across the screen. I have internet through Comcast so maybe I could get a better deal by looking into a bundle deal.

if you have the digital box you have that guide. Thats part of why i switched, my digital box broke and i spent 3 months talking to comcast about when they would fix it, and they never did and yada yada yada.
