That Tim Duncan must be one heck of a player if he's in the Top 10 twice.

OK, I guess I need to bring out the numbers on Maravich's NBA career. Almost 16,000 points sounds like a lot, but do you know where that puts him all time? Number 92. Remember, scoring is what he did best. Here is a list of just the guards who are still active NBA players who have scored more points in their NBA career than Pete did:

Allen Iverson
Ray Allen
Paul Pierce
Vince Carter
Tracy McGrady
Michael Finley
and.................(drum roll)

Stephon Marbury

Yes, Pete had injuries, and was really never 100% as an NBA player, and we have no way of knowing what he would have done if he had been. He's not alone in that. Can you say Bill Walton? This is why both of them deserve to be rated right at the top as college players, but not as pros.

Among the players whos numbers say they should be getting more love than we have been giving them here (none)?

With their all time scoring rankings:

Moses Malone-6
Dan Issel-8
Elvin Hayes-9
Dominique Wilkins-12
George Gervin-13
Alex English-15

Moses and the big E are also way up there on the rebounding list

I'd second whoever says that Maravich was one of the greatest college players of all-time and one of the best in NBA history (but not the best). After all, he holds the record for the most points in NCAA Division I history...

...and wasn't allowed to play varsity his freshman year...
...or had the benefit of the three-point line.

I agree with Blwall, David Thompson is without question one of the top 10 basketball players of all time. Unfortunately, most of us involved in this discussion are too young to have seen him play. Thompson was doing things that we all thought Jordan made look spectacular before most of us were ever even born.
I mean the guy practically invented the alley-oop, was a No. 1 draft pick in BOTH the NBA and ABA in 1975 and averaged over 20 points a game for six of the nine seasons he played before his career was cut short by a knee injury. Any guy Michael Jordan call his role model has to have done some pretty special things to earn that type of praise.
