Dirk is the man in Dallas, I can't believe you even asked that question. Did you see him in the playoffs? He was unguardable at times. He still averaged 26 points and 8 boards a game. In the playoffs he averaged 27 and 10 along with 3 assists while shooting 51.8% overall. He went absolutely bonkers against a good defensive team in Denver, going off for 34.4 and 11.6 per game in that series along with 4 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal a game. How in the world is that fading? That Denver playoff series was one of his best ever performances in the playoffs for his entire career.
Also, Josh Howard is a very good player and Jason Terry is still playing at a pretty good level too. Marion won't ever have to be the man in Dallas this year unless all three of them go down. He won't have to be put in a situation where he is required to be one of the focal points of the offense - that's why he was an epic failure in Miami and Toronto, plus he didn't have Steve Nash, but not he'll have Jason Kidd who fills the same "make everyone better around him" role that Nash did for Marion in Phoenix.
Despite being in a situation which was a terrible fit for him, he still managed to average 12.9 points 8.5 boards, 1 block, and 1.3 steals a game - more than servicable numbers for a guy who will most likely only be expected to be the 4th or 5th best player on the team. His first year in Miami wasn't nearly as bad as it is made out to be, his last year in phoenix he had a PER of 20.87, the first year in Miami it was 19.10 - a decline but not overwhelmingly significant. This past year it was 16.02 - a significant decline, but it's still over the league average of 15. This year he actually shot a higehr FG% than his career total - he just didn't shoot as much. Of course, when nearly 2/3s of your season is played on a team that has both Dwayne Wade and Michael Beasley, your shot totals going down are is nothing but inevitable. When he went to Toronto, he took 2.1 more shots a game than he was in Miami and finished the season second on the team in shot attempts per game behind Chris Bosh. Marion can still play pretty well, it's just a matter of the right fit.

Just because you want to be the man doesn't mean you can actually be the man...flamesbball84 wrote:Yeah, but "being the man" was something that Marion always wanted to do. There was a story (back when he was in his prime) where he was asked if he'd want to be the second-fiddle on one of the best teams in the league, or be "the man" on a lousy team. He had to seriously ponder that question before choosing the latter, but only if the lousy team was still a playoff-bound team.Liberty4Life wrote: Yeah, but not Miami. He played horribly average ball with the Miami Heat, immediately before going to Toronto. It was a terrible fit for him. He was expected to be the man on the team and the go to guy when DWade was out, and when DWade was played he was expected to be the #2 guy on the team and also be a go to type of player. He was also expected to be a go to type of player in Toronto. That's not his type of game, never has and never will be. His most successful years was when he never had to be that and just scored "junk" points for lack of a better word.
Besides, what kind of situation is he going to be in at Dallas? Is he going to be "the man"? Or will a fading Irk Nowitzki (remember, Nowitzki has no "D") be the man? Jason Kidd?
