Holy Grail
Caddyshack
Bill and Ted #1 (#2 really was bogus)
Wayne's World #1 (#2 sucked)
This Is Spinal Tap

If I had seen Meaning of Life in different company, I probably would have enjoyed it more and put it up here. But (thanks to my roommate, who recommended it), I saw it with my girlfriend and her family. AWKward.

Dumb and Dumber
Airplane

A lot of this depends on your type of sense of humor...and your age.

I take it you mean that as a joke...
Nope. The thread title is "Funniest Movie Ever" and I find unintentional humor so much more funny that scripted comedy.

Along those lines, I really really want to see The Room. Trailer:

They didn't start promoting it as a "black comedy" until they realized that the theater audiences were laughing at it.

one of the funniest ones i have seen recently is the Dragonball movie, that people thought a live action movie would be a good idea is amazing

Whoever said Naked Gun movies is dead on too. I can't believe I forgot those. Leslie Neilsen was a serious actor much like Harrison Ford or someone and he turned into a comedic actor for Airplane and Naked Gun movies and it worked to perfection. Also Christmas Vacation is so funny for so much of that movie that you end up missing lines from all the laughter and have to rewind. Of all the Vaction movies Christmas Vacation is my favorite.

I'll will be honest:

I watch Disney Channel, and the funniest movie I have seen (and I got my parents to watch it and they thought it was hilarious!) was Hatching Pete.

I know I have issues.

OK, I watch Disney channel, too (I have a daughter), and Hatching Pete was pretty good. Not as funny as Spinal Tap or Holy Grail, but it was pretty good.

I couldn't take Napolean Dynamite until I tried the experiment of muting the sound and turning on the subtitles. That movie is hysterical "on paper" but actually listening to the dialogue made me wish I had some dynamite.

I don't have an all-time favorite, but I do like the TV version of Tommy Boy. And I have to back up SCAR with his mention of Young Frankenstein.

Older movies (from my grade school days):
Naked Gun movies
Major League
National Lampoon's vacation and Christmas Vacation
A Christmas Story
The Jerk
Sixteen Candles
The Princess Bride
Police Academy movies were good (the first 2-3 at least)
Spinal Tap was funny, but got old after the first hour. I felt like I was watching a REALLY long SNL skit. It was VERY funny at times!
Eddie Murphy during the 80's (48 hours, Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America)

The college years (mid 90's and later):
The Wedding Singer
Swingers
Pee Wee's Big Adventure
Meet the Parents
Dumb and Dumber
Tommy Boy
Office Space
Mallrats
Kingpin
Groundhog day
Napoleon Dynamite (it took a few viewings to really appreciate it though)
Dazed and Confused
Can't Hardly Wait
Austin Powers had some GREAT moments
Shrek
Friday
I did like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore! (I have seen them both probably 50 times)

This may put me under homo suspicion, but I thought Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion was pretty funny!

Movies probably only funny to me:
Oscar
Shallow Hal

First, I absolutely love Napolean Dynamite. But as for the subtitles, one of the funniest movies I've seen that is much better with subtitles (rather than it being dubbed) is Shaolin Soccer.

How have i not seen How High mentioned once? If Friday and half baked were mentioned, How High has to be!

Friday after Next i think is the funniest of the three. Next Friday was a waste of time, and Friday of course is a classic, but Friday after next is my favorite.

Also, any Madea movie.

Not in the funniest movie ever category, but one of the funnier movies I've seen in a while is Ghost Town. It's very funny and the wife/girlfriend will like it too.

I thought of another one: Captain Ron.

If that's ever on TV, I have to watch it, and it was just on the other night.

SCAR is right about Young Frankenstein - I also like Best In Show - Eugene Levy and Christopher Guest do have some genius moments. "I can name all the nuts, peanut, walnut, brazil nut, macadamia nut - that one drove my mother crazy....." Monty Python and the Holy Grail is another funny movie.

Why would we think you're joking? That was a funny movie. Simon Pegg = heavily-accented hilarity

Whoever said the burbs, that ones great. Another good one no one has said is Dirty Rotten scoundrels, and dont forget the three amigos. Not alot of really good funny movies have come out lately. Theres alot of movies with funny parts, but way too crass or vulgar. Like Step Brothers, I love that movie, it has some hilarious scenes. But, they genuinely tried to see how much they could get away with and its too much sometimes. But alot of great scenes and lines in that movie.

I just saw Anchorman and have to put that near the top of the list - Kicking and Screaming was very funny too.
