With all the great things I had heard about the defense this Spring, I was a little surprised with how effective the offense was, especially early on. Seemed like the D hit stride somewhat in the second half, but the scoring system they use makes it really tough for them to win.

There's already a thread on awards and captains.

Just looking through the box score, looks like Kyle DeArmon could be in the mix at WR.

So was I and quite a few other people. We didn't know where that offense had been all spring. Knowing who the quarterback was going to be really made it a lot better for them. The constant switching between Mike and Spencer throughout the spring made it tough to get in a rhythm. That wasn't a problem today.

Larry Claiborne and Chuck Duffey are going to be very solid contributors for this team this year, you can just tell based on what they've done in the past and how they seem to keep improving.

Doncel being a Samkon winner this year just adds to the notion that this defense has the potential to be quite good. Solid linebackers, solid DB's, and the DL has the potenial to be very good, as well.

As for the offense... I am not all that impressed with Mike Brown's throwing. Everything else, yeah, I am a huge fan of. Especially his attitude about the game and his excitement and passion. I just don't like the dead-duck deep pass I saw twice today. Nor do I like the throwing behind a little pass to the flat. He didn't really make a throw that made me say "This guy is a solid QB". He made the plays as a runner at the QB position that will make him insanely dangerous. But I just don't trust him in a situation where he has to throw the ball. If we have a 3rd and 12, I just can't see Mike consistently making a throw in that situation to get us a first down.

However, I still think Mike should start, because really, the only way to get him ready to make the throws he needs to make is by getting in the game. The threat he poses by getting the ball on EVERY snap makes it worth a few bad throws. He is a dangerous athlete, and I have come to realize that getting him the ball on every play is a very good idea.

I wasn't at the game so I didn't see this first hand. But I think he is the type of guy that needs to have the ball in his hands every play just like you said. He is a playmaker.

I thought it was a nice crowd for the spring game. Great weather too :) I thought the team looked OK, but there's definitely room for improvement, especially on offense. I dont really feel like we have much of a running game, but then again, I'm also used to seeing Rashad barrelling through the line  As for the passing game, SJ eluded to the fact that there needs to be chemistry built between the QB and WRs, which I totally agree with, and will come with time. No particular WR really stood out to me as one that could become our "go to" guy, but I'm sure we'll have a few emerge from the pack as time progresses. I think they will be just fine once they get more reps come summer camp though b/c they all have great potential. Also hoping that they'll put the TEs in the mix a little more. I was hoping to see a few more passes thrown to Tommy Shaver, but I heard he had a broken finger or something, so I'm assuming that's why we didnt see a lot from him.

Tommy's only been practicing about a week and had a cast on his hand. That's why he dropped one of the passes thrown to him.

I went to the spring game and here are my thoughts:

1. Mike Brown has the potential to really be a dangerous player next year. Needs to work on the passing accuracy (especially on the swing passes) but I think he can eat up a lot of yards with his feet.

2. Spencer Landis has a pretty good set of wheels himself. I saw a couple plays where he got 10-15 yards using just his legs. He really is the better passer of the two right now (course he has had a couple years playing behind Brock Smith as well)

3. I agree with FC about the running game. Really nobody showed themselves to be a game changer yesterday. Broggin has a chance to be one. Courtney Anderson had some flashes when he was in as well.

4. Kyle DeArmon could make his way into the WR rotation as he definitely had some very good plays as well.

5. Its already been said...Jamal Giddens is gonna be scary...I think he might break somebody in half next year.

6. Paul Young doinked an extra point off the same upright twice (and you could hear the PA announcer chuckle after the second one). I think Bevins could be our FG guy next year.

7. I think our defense could really turn some heads next year.

That was very funny to hear the PA announcer laugh out loud so everyone in the stadium could hear him. I felt bad for Paul though that must of stunk to be him

I mean that Mike is the kid of guy who could definitely be a major player in the ground game. It will be interesting to see what Holloway does when he gets in and practices this summer but if we can gain a lot of ground with the QBs and RBs that could really add a new level or formidableness to the offense

i think Paul could still get the start as FG K for next year, i mean he is deadly accurate, see above.. it takes skill to hit the same post twice, now if he could just put it down the middle he will be good

Beautiful day to watch a football game, lots of sunburned caucasians today I'm sure. Anyway, the names I noticed in no particular order:
Mike Brown, no-brainer there.
Larry Claiborne
Pierre Tinsley
Larry Claiborne
Danny Broggin
Larry Claiborne
Zach Duke made a nice play but I'm afraid for him, he just looked so small out there...
and lastly, ummmm, Larry Claiborne

Not to mention everyone in the crowd laughing.

I heard someone yell that he should go out and buy a lottery ticket.
