Here is the place for all other LU sponsored sports. Come here to post about: Men's/Women's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Men's/Women's Soccer, Men's/Women's Tennis, Men's/Women's Track & Field, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Swimming & Dive, Women's Volleyball
anyone here involved or planning to be? another club sport that has the potential to develop into a NCAA sport down the road- can only be good for the school.
Liberty University Club Swimming
LaHaye Student Center
Liberty University Club Swimming will hold an organizational meeting on September 7 at 7:15 in the LaHaye Student Center Pool area. Meet the coaches, ask questions, register , and learn how you can represent Liberty University as a club swimmer. See you at the pool!
When we do go I-A (Bowl Subdivision) we will be increasing our scholarships and we'll need to match equivalencies on the womens side of the department to an extent. That might open the door for swimming or diving. But I wouldn't count on it anytime soon.
stop, please stop. I'd like dinner tonite, thanks.
Yeah SLY, I figured the same thing, between womens golf (almost a sure thing, I'd think) and womens' hockey (sorta far off other than a club sport) we could add swimming and be pretty well off. And probably far and away sponsoring the most sports overall in the BSOUTH

I emailed them a year ago and they said that if the Big South Conf. doesn't have it they won't look to have sports in those areas.
I wish they would my son would consider them but right now he is looking into the ACC and PAC Ten schools.
Unfortunately a number of schools have been dropping their mens swimming/diving programs in recent years (including highly successful and wealthy Nebraska) due to Title IX. I'm guessing should we start a program it would probably on the womens side for the same reasons.
As for your son, if you are hearing from Eddie Reese at Texas then by all means get him to Austin ASAP if your son has any designs on Beijing.
The other issue is hockey is pushing hard to go to D1 as well. I see hockey going D1 before swimming and hockey is a long way from getting there. We (Liberty) needs to build up what we have before we (Liberty) start adding sports.

Tell that to wrestling. That was added from nothing and there seems to be a good deal of excitement surrounding the sport.

Woe to you, O traitor, you who have not been betrayed!
wish they'd had swimming as a club sport in 05. 12 years of club swim and no place to do it at LU : (
and the reason wrestling was started from "nothing" is because they had alums raise $100k to do it.
(And it was kind of payback for cutting the wrestling team with no warning back in '93 b/c of title IX (still the worst piece of legislation ever)
for anyone that disagrees, mens clubs are STILL dropping like flies instead of schools adding womens clubs...
good idea, TERRIBLE application!

Yup, Title IX is hitting varsity olympic sports across the board. VMI, NC A&T and West Virginia have all dropped their men's tennis programs as a result of Title IX. Bad legislation starts with good intentions.
