Well does anyone know anything about practice? We have 14 pages of discussion about the turf and hardly a mention about preseason practice.

I saw some this morning and it seemed to be going good. The coaches look to be harping on the little stuff like wrapping up in practice and things like that which is good. Other than that, it's just practice.

You'll have to forgive us for not updating. Most of those of us at practice are there most of the day and, when we're not at practice, we don't want to talk about practice.

All in all, things are going very well. Unless you looked at a calendar, there's no way you would think this team lost 10 games less than a year ago. The coaches are trying to keep things physical w/o wearing the guys out or losing guys to injury. Nothing significant in the way of guys hurt. The freshmen are meshing fairly well into the program. The guys seem to have come into camp with a mission in mind so most of them came in in pretty good shape.

If you're looking for specifics: Brock looks better than he did in the spring. Rashad and Stokes are about 245 pounds apiece giving us quite possibly the biggest backfield in I-AA. Freshmen The receivers and tight ends seem to be playing well. Kevin Richard and Brady Hassell moved from D-Line to OL and seem to be taking to it, Richard especially. Britt Stone put on something like 40 pounds of muscle in the off-season, so he's improved. D-Line got some help w/ Vargas and Jacobs. Wendland did very well the first few days but, at this point, there is something of a language barrier that's holding him back a bit. Our LBs are probably the strength of the team right now. SR Lloyd is doing some really good things right now. We got Pat Parziale as a late walk-on transfer from Army to give us a little more depth. It looks like the DB starters are firmly ensconced but the defensive backfield seems to be where our freshmen are shining the brightest. Tim Torrence has earned the nickname "Tasmanian Devil" and Chris Rocco looks like he was born to play safety. He's back-pedaling faster than some of the receivers are coming off the line.

I hope that tides y'all over for a while.

Nice to know the linebacker corp is looking good. The 3-4 could be pretty stout.

Ya gotta remember Lib, Chris was a starting QB all 4 years in HS (and a pretty good DB too) so he knows a thing or two about good footwork

Brady Hassell is a good friend of mine, I think he's a bit dissapointed in moving to OL -- last time I talked to him, he was real excited about playing DL.

I'll try to get ahold of him soon.

I know Brock was pretty excited to have Brady in front of him b/c of Brady's athleticism. Hopefully, that mitigates some disappointment.

Brady def. has some of that. He was a tailback in HS, I remember watching him plow through people left and right. Of course, he's hulked up since then.

He spoke highly of Rocco. I think during his first few years under KK, he never saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Rocco has these guys foaming at the mouth ready to play.

What you said was all minor injuries. There's 70-some odd guys out there, and you mentioned five. That's not anywhere close to "quite a few" for that amount of guys. I'd say that's probably less than or right at the amount of guys you'd expect to have some things tweaked in the first week o fpractice.

I'm not sure about the specific nature of some guys' injuries -- and I wouldn't tell you even if I was -- but those you mentioned are all minor things that happen during training camp and the course of the season. It's not something that's worrisome or would necessarily keep them from playing, particularly in the case of the freshmen who, at best -- hopefully -- would see only limited time this season anyway.

Another thing to remember is that freshmen always get dinged up in training camp. They're generally not nearly as big or as strong as the veterans they're competing against and they generally come from a high school program that doesn't have nearly the conditioning regimen that a D-I college program requires.

Rocco, has always been solid in the D-backfield, he knows this defense very well...Kevin Richard, blocked for Rashad in H.S at LCA and was a very good O-linemen, I will never forget the state championship game his Senior year at STAB, he pretty much kept Chris Long (UVA) quite the whole game... So this is not surprising at all.

yeah that was a sweet game being that STAB and other people thought they were going to come into our field and beat us. I guess we turned the tables on them. or were you referring to the STAB game from a couple years ago at their place?
