Willie plays with a lot of emotion; that's the way he leads. I can see how it can annoy opponents, but it also can work in the team's favor on the court.

As for Duggar, I don't know if what he did was pointed or not. I wouldn't have done it, but I'm not competitive enough to coach basketball, either. My guess is he just wanted to give his starters a curtain call.

I don't disagree at all.

It's why Carolina fans love Hansbrough and everyone else hates him. That goes on with a lot of teams.

you dont give curtain calls with 5 seconds left.....there is some bad blood between him and mckay after this year, there is not doubt about that, any one see the hand shake after last nights game, hah.....Maybe it will renew this rivalry, that would be good.

Hey, I'm not pretending there's nothing there, but not very many handshakes between coaches after games are all that warm. Not sure I'd read anything into that.

As for curtain calls, I'm not aware of any convention or code. I've seen it done different ways at many different stages. Don't you think the winning team should get to decide when that happens?

I've seen dozens of games on TV, where the coach of the winning team will call a 30-sec. time out w/25;35;40 seconds remaining to get the starters out, and let their fans & families give them one more cheer. When you are predicted to finish 7th, and you get to this position, emotions run high, happiness sets in, etc. Competitive college athletics are full of emotional highs and lows. IF that were CCU instead of VMI last night, would your view have been different?

I thought the "rivalry" kicked up four years ago when it was Reggie W. and Larry Blair leading their respective teams, with competitive contests.

You get an allotment of each, so it's possible a full time out was all he had.

I am not sure if he did or not, but with the way the second half was going, I assumed he didnt call that many timeouts. Could very well be wrong, so consider it a grain of salt.

Goodness, folks. Baucom just wanted to get his reserves a chance to see some playing time late in a game.

Hey I didnt say I was upset over it. Just pointing out stuff. Not exactly sure what 27 seconds does for a bench player, but I also know nothing about basketball.

I'm not getting on you, man. But this "Duggar is classless" vibe that's been going on here is a bit ridiculous.

There's a lot of ridiculous that happens on this board. I think we've got a little too used to winning.

Duggar's alright. He and his teamed backed it all up with a big W last night in a game that really mattered. Gotta give it to 'em, they earned it.

I'm starting to wonder if Duggar knew more than he should have regarding the nature of Jesse's injury, though

But either way, let the rivarly continue.

And, I hope they smash Radford!

Thank you, thank you.

It finally dawned on me that having some LU fans pulling for RU over us is kind of a back-handed compliment. We haven't won enough to have real rivalries in years.

Ha, used to winning. I hope you were being sarcastic because frankly I'm sick and tired of defeat.

Not a shot at Radford, but the way VMI can score points, they would be a better rep of the Big South in the big dance against a #1 or #2 seed.

I sure hope we can avoid the play-in game in Dayton. I saw some bracketology projections a couple of weeks back that had Radford playing in that game.

No you dont. You buy education.
Indeed, really the only donations students make at college is with their respective student athletic clubs.

i think duggar embarasses himself with his constant tirades on the sidelines. I dont care if he wants to run up the score, what goes around comes around in that department. It's the other teams job to stop them from scoring. Sure it would be in good taste to pull off the dogs but if I had the chance I would give it to them just like we did in football the past couple years. It's not the other teams job to stop scoring points. A hard foul sometimes delivers the message that a team isn't going to lay down. We layed down in lynchburg and gave up again in the second half. So, While I think Duggar is a whiner and constantly act like a buffoon on the sideline all game long, I dont blame him for running up the score or getting subs in. It's our job to stop the other team. He will be paid back in due time, His underclassmen really didnt show a lot so we should give it to them next year. Let them enjoy a win every now and then, have you guys watched what happens in pretty much every other sport against them, demolition.....Very frustrating losses but it's hindsight now

ok i gave myself last night and today to calm down and heres my .02

We quit... flat out quit. We didnt have a coach for the first 35 minutes, so dont try to be a coach for the last 5. There is NO reason to start Spencer and give him the minutes that he is getting when you have better options to go to. Love James, great kid, but has no business starting a game like that. VMI wanted it more than we did and it showed. They deserve to win and I will pull for them tomorrow because they are great people, except willie... ugh willie. We did exactly what we had to do in the first half getting their kids in foul trouble but almost if not all the fouls came in the paint and thats where the ball needs to go i dont see why that is so hard to understand. Next, how do you play a team 3 times and not know what they are going to do especially when you have film from the rest of the year. If you are not ready to break the press when you play VMI dont even show up. By watching anything on VMI you would know that they love to trap or press on a miss so when you get a defensive rebound you have to get the ball past halfcourt before they can set up, instead we held it and let them set the freakin press up like a deer in the headlights. Every loss there is an excuse and every win there needs to be a party for no reason. You cant expect Steph to come into the game and play like he has all season when you have killed his confidence by not playing him hardly for the last 2 weeks and instead started the walkon. I dont know what McKay's infatuation is with turning a walkon into an allstar but thats a once maybe every 15 years thing (Scar and Kyle). Call the senior night game what you want to and say they were running the score up, but its your job to stop them just like its your job to score. They arent supposed to lay down and just let you make a comeback. Then we play VMI a few days ago and because you cried and complained they try to run the clock out in the last 2 minutes and you trap and start attacking the basket. Too late "coach" for trying to score now, and I wonder why they didnt try to run it out last time, cause stuff like that happens. Duggar is amazing and i give him credit, he played our game for the first half and was only down 3 and never pressed knowing that after halftime its impossible for McKay to make an in game adjustment... GENIUS! And I LOVED the fact that he used every timeout he had, it made me smile inside. I have never seen anything like what I have seen and thats being alright or complacent with sub-par performances. Call McKays little blowup whatever you want from senior night, but the bottom line is, its far worse than any complaining Duggar has ever done. And we want to talk about Classless. All I know is I heard from McKay's mouth before the season that if we wanted tickets it would be taken care of, psh... JOKE! I went to UVA, HPU, VMI, Radford for this VMI game, and maybe another i cant remember, but I know that tickets had to be paid for all of them on my end and I have never been further from the floor in my life... This is the Big South not the BIG EAST. I didnt even know High Point had an upper deck, but i quickly learned as im having to look around the suspended basket to maybe see whats going on on the floor and having to keep my head from hitting the rafters. Blame it on McKay Barber Whoever all I know is that I was lied to and its complete crap when I can look down and see the athletic department sitting on their hands on the front row. UVA, upper deck, VMI, in the top corner, Radford... you guessed it, the top. All i heard last year is wait until McKay gets his own guys in here and can run the way he wants to, well you know what, the gangs all here and we still cant even get to the BS championship. And yes, they werent ALL his guys but he was left the preseason player of the year and the only player who can play the 5 and not foul out in 4 minutes. Especially in a down year for the Big South. This guy is a joke, but hey, couldnt happen to a better AD! Maybe McKay should stop trying to screw kids over or run them off and start watching a little film and preparing a little bit instead of assuming some random crap like VMI is going to switch up something they are doing when they just used their gameplan and beat you by 40 last week. Nothing like driving 15 minutes up the road to the vines to get your butt kicked but I drove 4 hours thursday to get mine kicked. Take some pride in your work, you have enough of it the rest of the time why should YOUR JOB be any different. I cant not support a man or a team that doesnt even want to show up... I did more work just cheering the first half than the starters did the entire game. Hey "Coach", if you would step off your high horse for a second and listen to a lowly college kid... LEARN TO BREAK THE PRESS, PLAY THE BEST 5, GET A POST TOUCH, ATTACK THE RIM SOMETIMES, STOP WORRYING ABOUT THE OPPOSING BENCH AND COACH, AND STOP WORRYING ABOUT BEING BEST DRESSED COACH IN SOME RANDOM GQ BRACKET and you might mess around and win a conference championship in your time here. Just my opinion though, obviously you know what youre doing.

Last thing, If I hear Jeff Barber say one more freakin word about wearing red to a game I am going to scream, I didnt see him wear red to A SINGLE game this year, not even a red SHOELACE, but thats all he wants to tell the students. Keep spending money like a drunken sailor and supporting sub-par coaches and lying and you might get somewhere.

Chances are this is going to run a lot of people the wrong way, but I dont care, its all true... It will probably even be deleted by in the morning, but thats what we do around here is censor truth and live in a fantasy land where we arent supposed to be good because its a Christian school... VMI has got to be THE toughest place to recruit and guess what tomorrow at 4:00 they will get a chance to play in the dance, must be nice. Im sorry Im just not going to sit around and fluff pillows and feel great about a season that was a wash and a coach who wants to run a players personal life over a decent defensive set. If we played our hearts out and left it all on the floor and finished the season with 4 wins I wouldnt be saying this i can promise you that... but when your coach doesnt show up and your coach is a quitter and your coach doesnt know what to do and your coach is being laughed at throughout the nation on live television for getting his rear end handed to him 3 times where the world could see because he cant teach the basics... cmon! Yes, we are more popular nationally then we have ever been, but its not because of anything special, we signed a GREAT kid with a GREAT last name, it has nothing to do with a coach or success or even our pretty AD.

Thank You Smitty for 4 great years and best of Luck to you. Kyle and Tyler, I hope you guys take the bull by the horns and not rest until you know that you can win in this league... You might have to teach your coach a few things, but you can do it. Curry, Jesse, Freshman, this is just basketball, this is how it is... but now you have been there and seen how happy a team is just for making it to the championship like you got to see on VMI's faces and I hope you want that too... and you will all see whoever wins tomorrows game will have a better look in their face.

GO VMI!....Except Willie :D
