The last time the Flames had 20 wins in a season (Feb. 20, 1997)...

Bill Clinton was one month into his second term as President of the United States.

The Dow Jones had just closed above 7,000 for the first time.

Ben and Jerry's introduced their new flavor "Phish Food".

The Spice Girls had the number one single and album in the country.

The Green Bay Packers were Super Bowl Champions.

Feel free to keep it going...

13, in 7th grade, ran my fastest mile ever of 7:24 (and I walked most of the last lap because my side began to hurt pretty freaking bad).

I remember listening to that on the radio in class.

Mrs. Veit's 5th grade AG math and language arts class. Our classroom was a trailer next to the basketball courts. King Intermediate School. We were the Spartans.

The Flames had Peter Aluma,Marcus White, and Larry Jackson leading the way to a 23-9 season only to be ousted in the championship game of the Big South tourney by Charleston Southern. 1997 is also the 1st Big South title for the womens team, led by the Wilkerson twins and Elena Kisseleva. Oh, one more thing about the mens team, they had the most wins in D1 basketball that year to NOT make the tournament...that was my Junior year at LU

I was on that staff that won the 20th game and we had visions of a ring. The only ring I got that year was from my fiance whose birthday we were celebrating that day. Can't remember what I did for her but I am pretty sure it was nothing special since I was a poor coach with 0 time for a social life. Got married that spring and went to Willamsburg for my honeymoon too. Stayed in a bed and breakfast.

I was 11 in the 6th grade, a Safety Patrol officer (yes, my school at that time had those...it was pre-LCA days), and hadn't even started playing tennis yet.

I was still single and while covering games at the Erwin Center I would sit next to the man who would later become our 43rd President. The man loves popcorn as much as the Horns.

I was on the bench for UNCA in basketball season in 1997...with a team that should have won it.

In 1997...
The world hadn't yet heard of Monica Lewinsky... it'd still be another few months before we logged on to our Prodigy or AOL accounts and found out about the President's latest squeeze.

1997--Davey Johnson managed the Orioles to 94 wins and the playoffs: Mike Mussina was still an Oriole, as was Cal Ripken, Robby Alomar, BJ Surhoff, Raffy Palmeiro, & Brady Anderson. That was a LONG time ago. :(
