wset said tonight the colonnade has been pushed back to 2010 or 2011 at the earliest. the lakeside complex has been pushed off indefinitely, which is not new news really though

Not a big fan of the Colonade project. Who wants another strip mall? If it was going to be the next Short Pump or even the next Stony Point then that would be great. I already want to move back to L-burg and that could be the final seal of approval from my future wife :D

I agree...when I first heard about it, I really thought it was going to be something like Short Pump...but after seeing some draw ups its just Wards Crossing III...something Lburg doesn't really need...

one of the Falwell sons was on wset and said that Lynchburg could use a civic center in the place of the lakeside project if that never pans out, and when I mentioned that before I was basically told I was an idiot.

I dont know why you would be called an idiot, they talked about something like this for years...although I'd be more interested if the project over at LU never takes off....

Your not an idiot! I would love to see a civic center :D My only problem would be the city having any control over it especially how they they look at LU. I can not wait to see LU with a great facility to house basketball games and local concerts. I don't think that we something like John P. Jones but somethings 2/3 that size would be great.

a civic center is definitely something the school has future interest in partnering with the city on. That would be a much better use of funds than subsidizing hotels that no one can afford, or revitalizing sidewalks no one walks on...

I was one of them and I stick to it. Obviously Liberty could use a civic center. Which is why he's saying Lynchburg should get one. But the city wouldn't know what to do with one.

JPJ really hurt us...I think we'd be planning for one right now if it wasnt for JPJ IMO of course

Really. If I'm a big time act that can fill a Civic Center am I gonna go to Roanoke, Charlottesville, Lynchburg, and Richmond? No. Too many shows in one specific area and guess which one gets cut first.

it doesnt matter how willing the city is to help us....we're not going to be able to out do JPJ...acts are already leaving Roanoke for JPJ as of 2 years ago

I like to think that I know this area pretty well and have a average business mind yet I still cant come up with a good explanation for them putting as much money as they are into a movie theater. The amount of money that they are spending is very close to the amount that the mall itself is worth. Yes I know that they will do well...but if RR cannot put tenants in the empty places then it doesnt matter how well the theater does. I hear more closings will be happening soon not mentioned on here before. I also heard Gap is relocating to Wards.

I really just dont know...but it does seem like it's just a matter of time before....

hahaha enough said
hmm... LU gets an IMAX?...lol

personally, id like to see them put a mall someplace that isnt on the bus line, where roving bands of little teenage wannabe thugs dont hang out on the weekends b/c their parents refuse to discipline them and there aren't 40 person fights in the food court all the time...

but what am i thinking?...sheesh!

mall has a hard enough time getting 40 people all at once to begin with, unless its christmas shopping season!
