We dominated the paint with a team that doesn't have a true post presence. We will have two next year, and things could get ugly.
Funny that your 1st DI win of the season has you all juiced up about the next year.

Funny how all of you comment WU's program is going downhill and we still beat you. Funny how even out to a slow start to the season, we still beat you.

You got dominated in the paint by a team missing their center to injury. I'm just saying, if that's the best you've got, it's going to get ugly in the future.

Hey they beat us. And weve been talking some just about 1)how bad they are and 2) Faison's ineffectiveness. Boy that couldnt have gone down worse.
They are bad, but we have been beaten by bad teams (i.e. Presby) before.

So they beat us, but the Winthrop game is not a make or break game. I'd bet that they will have more conf. losses under their belt this year than they've had for years. If they are as good in relation to the rest of the Big South, as Realist always seems to think, and they only squeak by us by two in their place, I'm feeling pretty good about how we'll do through the conf. schedule.

Realist, even you don't believe that was the best we've got. We played one of our poorer games of the year, Curry was 5-17 from the floor, and we still almost beat you on your court.

By the way Realist, as bad as you guys have had it this year, you should feel at home with us. We have felt the pain of having some really crappy seasons. You need to get on over to your own site and shake up those guys who were talking down about Peele last week.

Do I think LU played their best game? No, but neither did WU. And let's not say that you just had an off night. WU actually decided to play defense tonight. You didn't have a lot of open looks.

The awful Peele is now 3-0 against Mckay.

I think LU is going to get better this year, as will WU, but it will be interesting to see who can score besides Curry next year. You don't seem to have a lot of options once Smith leaves.

Are the graphics from the creators of Techno Bowl???
it's the same interface LU uses and it's the default interface provided by Statcrew. All the other websites out there with fancy looking livestats interfaces are because their website was designed by someone like ICS, PrestoSports, CBS College Sports, and other companies who provide a livestats interface as part of their website package. Unless LU and Winthrop were to make their own livestats interface in-house (which would be fairly complex to work out on multiple levels without the working knowledge of how livestats works). Also saves money as this version requires only html output, all the other ones require XML output, which means the Sports Info departments will have to buy a new version of the Statcrew program every single year.

I think we're really going to struggle on the road in conference this year. It's going to be tough to go anywhere with 7 freshman, no matter how good they are. Road wins will be at a premium all season long.

Seems like Faison (which is pronounced Fay-Zun, not Fayz-On) has been reading about Sly Fox's criticisms of him and decided to take it out on LU...

Anyway, that was an interesting battle tonight, and I got really worried when LU re-took the lead after being down 12...but WU played with the most confidence and resiliency that I'd seen from them all year...I think alot of their struggles had become mental, and they struggled to recover when things went wrong for them in games, but tonight, they battled hard and got rewarded with a hard-fought win. WU still has alot of things to improve on, but they seem to be heading in the right direction. As for LU, that trapping defense they play is very effective at keeping WU from getting good looks into the post and it definitely forces WU to use alot of shot-clock...I was impressed with how LU played on the defensive end. On offense, there's no doubt that Smith and Curry can definitely score, but Floyd and Sanders don't seem to look to score at all at times, and I think they had some good opportunities that they passed up. Should be an interesting rematch in Lynchburg next month...

And it was good to finally meet SCAR and SuperJon...enjoyed talking to you guys.

I told WEF and Horrez this and they agreed, but one of the things that I took as a positive out of this is Winthrop played one of their top two games of the year (CofC being the other) and we played one of our worst games and we still had a chance. Yes, a loss sucks, but having a chance when we don't play well is a good sign.

There were streaks where we just stopped playing good basketball. If we can ever put together 40 minutes of basketball we'll be good.

I wish Jesse and Johnny would've looked to get some layups tonight. I think between them there was two shots.

Faison picked one heck of a night to finally show up. Everyone knew he had the potential, he just never actually did anything until tonight.

I think Kyle's fourth foul was crap. It was a clean block but the foul was called because Kyle had been running his mouth and the ref punished him for it.

You could see in the second half when things clicked for Seth. He knew he was going to be the one to spark the comeback. I know it sounds cliche'd, but he just had a look in his eye that he wasn't going to be denied.

That floater Seth shot in the last minute or so was almost all the way in and popped out.

The referees were atrocious both ways. The only thing consistent they were is bad. They would call something on us, then not call the same thing on Winthrop. Then they would call a foul on Winthrop but let us get away with the same thing.

Winthrop's the best defensive team we'll see the rest of the year. Part of our playing bad was because of them and their defense so I'll give credit where it's due.

Speaking of that, Austin Smith played very very well. I was extremely surprised. For the first time, it looked like he actually belonged on the court playing Division I basketball and that he didn't look like a freshman who didn't know what he was doing. If he can continue to improve we'll be in good shape.

No. No we didn't. I knew when I read that statement that it wasn't right. The box score backs me up.

POINTS IN PAINT
Liberty 20
Winthrop 18

2ND CHANCE POINTS
Liberty 9
Winthrop 12

We were out rebounded 39-28 but that's pretty close to normal. We're generally out rebounded by nine rebounds every game.

I figured we would lose this game and it would be tight...WU doesn't seem to be as good as years past, but it is still on the road and they are still Winthrop..obviously realist is angry because he was wrong about not winning by 20 like he said earlier in the week...

WU is probably a top 4 big south team along with us, VMI, and probably GW...so we really need to beat them at our place...

I think this whole season will see us playing well at home and struggling a bit on the road taking some wins...which is why i stuck with 12 conference wins, and I think that is a pretty safe bet, especially after last night

I didn't see the game, but SJ's comments seem to repeat what I have thought everytime I have seen us play...if we ever put together a solid 40 minute effort we will be a very, very good team

As the news/advance noted we have 5 wins against non-d1 teams, a couple of ot wins that could easily have gone the other way and are now 1-2 to start league. Monday's game will go a long way to show where we are early in the conference play.

I'll accept the gratitude of WinthropFans everywhere for waking up BF.

This game went about as most of us expected with it being close. Although I admit I sort of expected the Eagles to find a way to lose. Congrats to WU and their fans.

Wow, you couldn't be more obviously pathetic. Where have you been inthebeginning? You know, when we were winning. Austin, Texas? Eating Texas BBQ with a 5 gallon hat on? Wearing spurs and drinking sarsaparilla? Visiting Monticello?
