Just as we did against Montreat when they made a run, we come out of the TO and score 10 straight with Seth leading the way.

even the nike SOD ones won't fit well on some of those toothpicks - albeit good toothpicks - on Liberty's squad...

On to the finals. Any win is a good win, and 3-1 does sound very good.

my first time seeing the guys this year. very impressed with the first half, and the second half it appears we got a bit lazy, but RMK, got the T.O. and the guys started to play better. i really like the chemistry with the freshmen, and im highly impressed with sanders and curry. the vines actually looks nice...like a real arena again all the way down to the ushers in the red blazers. a nice crowd for a holiday weekend as well. with so many freshmen i do nto think we can expect the way we played against UVA, but man these guys are fun to watch. i can't wait for the students to get back and get the furnace rocking!

from the live stats it looks like W&M is bringing the typical high quality Tony Shaver defense to the table this year.

The W&M coach was a finalist for the UNCA job when Eddie got it. I think the sentiment at the time was an ACC assistant would be a much better hire for the program than a D3 head coach (Shaver was at Randolph Macon, at the time).

Shaver was actually at Hampden-Sydney and was one of the greatest coaches in D3 history

"In 17 seasons with the Tigers, Shaver won almost 75% of the games he coached. His Tigers won eight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championships and went on to great success in the NCAA Division III tournament, making 11 appearances in the tournament, with 7 trips to the Sweet Sixteen and 2 trips to the Final Four. The Tigers finished as the Division III National Runnerup in 1999, after suffering a double-overtime 1-point loss to the University of Wisconsin - Platteville in the national championship game. Shaver was a three-time ODAC Coach of the Year"

That 1999 UW-Platteville squad was the last year Bo Ryan coached in D3, who is now the head coach at Wisconsin.

Has there ever been a family that has done more to improve the image of mid-major college basketball? I know Seth hasn't got the play that Steph has yet but in the long run, these guys are going to completely change the role of the small guy, IMO.

Great article about last night's game, even though they misspelled our PG's last name in the headline (and it sounds like Lang has a man crush on Jesse):
Imagine being an assistant coach, trying to find a way to describe Liberty’s Jesse Sanders in a scouting report.

There are two major samples by which Sanders can be judged. Tuesday, during the Flames’ upset of Virginia in Charlottesville, Sanders was simply a distributor, finishing with eight assists, no turnovers and just two field-goal attempts.

But during an 88-66 victory over Coker in the first round of the Liberty Thanksgiving Classic on Friday night at Vines Center, Sanders became an entirely different player. He scored 15 points, hit 7 of 8 field goals and had two assists. Just four games into his college career, the freshman has shown an ability to adapt to however a team wants to defend him.

“He’s a weird matchup,” Liberty coach Ritchie McKay said. “When you look at our team, you see (Seth) Curry and say, wow, that dude is good. Anthony Smith is the preseason player of the year and Brolin (Floyd) hasn’t even gotten going yet. Jesse’s kind of the forgotten man. He just wins games. He helps your team win games.”

Sanders was twice named the home school national player of the year, and he’s had plenty of experience winning. His HCYA Warriors team in Houston won 41 games during his senior year. He didn’t play for a typical home-school program, either. The Warriors regularly competed against the top 5A and prep schools in the Houston area.
