One of my favorites: of Obama

Sarah Palin
the same thing you were....i try and look through the bs and listen to who is talking and who they are.

does she share alot of my political stances? yes....but so does my mother, and if mccain were to croak, i can't envision either one of them sitting accross the table with delegates from China....yikes. just as scary as having a teleprompterless obama doing the same thing.

just because i agree with them politically doesn't make them qualified to be our vice president.

most repubs are clamouring over this girl because they are only looking towards november and beating obama

"palin was awesome, what her speech writers wrote for her and she read to us was great"....yaaaawwwn

She had some good off the cuff moments last night. Her initial speach upon McCain introing her last week was 100% extemporaneous and was great!

But that's basically a critique of any political speech outside of a debate. Writers are pretty much responsible for content, and they just have to deliver. She did a decent job (I know I would crash and burn after I told the audience to shut their pieholes for 20 minutes). Like that's one of a few reasons everybody thinks Bush is stupid, because he is just isn't good at pretending he speaking instead of reading.

I love how everyone is making a big deal about McCain dying. His mother is still alive for crying out loud.

Supposedly they were having teleprompter problems last night for Palin and Rudy. The prompter kept scrolling during the applause, so for big chunks of these speeches they were pretty much going either by memory or off the cuff. So add that to the American lore of Sarah Palin.

man, could you imagine if she wasn't able to go without the prompter? That would have been the end of the election right there. Crazy how silly that is.

I have really enjoyed the last two nights of this convention. It's the fact that conservatism is finally been given a voice in the mainstream. They are saying things that conservatives have been saying ad nauseum for years, but this time on a national stage, without being cut off, interrupted, or ridiculed. They've finally taken advantage of the spotlight, which is why it was so important for Palin to say what she did. You won't here this stuff from the typical media, so now that they've got the open platform on all of these networks, they really need to push conservatism through. Up to now it's been about exposing Obama and the left, now it's McCain's job to convey conservatism, and after Saddleback, I think he'll be able to do that.

The line that stuck with me from last night from Palin was "Change is not a destination and hope is not a strategy". Excellent.

I definitely get a sense that there aren't many democrats on this board. Fair enough. I declare myself as an Independant when askedd but I admit that I am a registered Democrat in Pennsylvania. I registered as a Dem this year during the primary to vote for Obama over Clinton. But I am committed to learning everything I can about both candidates before making my final decision and I have to say that there is little that excites me about McCain and Palin. I am very skeptical about Palin for many reasons and believe that the only advantage she had over other choices was she is a woman who MccCain hopes can get some of those Clinton supporters. And let's be honest, of course there are a number of Hillary supporters who will switch their vote to McCain because Palin is a woman. You know it and I know it. It is the same sad reason that some people will vote against (or for) Obama because he is black.

Palin did nothing to say how the possible McCain/Palin combination will help this country. I believe you are naive to think that with Obama as president that all of a sudden the USA will become a vastly weaker country. McCain will do whatever he can to make it stronger, but is it devastatingly necessary? No. Even with Obama the USA will remain a strong power in the country and no, this country won't be at any more of a risk of an attack because of it. No matter who is president, terrorists will find a way if they want because they hate America.

I don't mean to offend anyone so I hope we can continue in a civil conversation given our different opinions. :)

Think about the target audience...pretty much GOP and the media last night. I think on the trail, and especially during the debate, she will boldly proclaim what the McCain-Babe ticket can do for the country.

That last line is correct, but I think the rest is naive. Why do you think the race for president is so important. It does matter who's in office, and there is a pretty big difference between the two candidates.

On a side note, check out the headlines on the main page of Yahoo:

RNC Speeches fact-checked - "Sarah Palin and her fellow RNC speakers weren't completely truthful at times."
Cindy McCain disagrees with Palin
Where are the minorities on RNC's prime-time stage?
and finally.....
Media bias against Palin suspected

Do these people really take themselves seriously? Are they honestly that blinded by their own ideology?

"Mrs. Palin needs to be reminded that Jesus Christ was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor."
Yes, the parallels are uncanny. Good one. Take that Palin and your Christianity!

Did you honestly watch the speech? I mean the diehard dems on TV would not even use the word "nothing." They just disagree with the many items she did discuss

To be fair, that is how it is in politics on TV. Experts from one side will not acknowledge anything the other side says and instead disagree with them. Perhaps I worded myself inaccurately. I took it more as "This is what Obama will do and why it sucks" rather than "This is what we'll do and why it's good". Obama-Biden do a much better job talking about their plans in public than McCain-Palin. Let's see what McCain does tonight.

Three thoughts: thoughts:

1. Your argument seemed to be that you'd vote for Obama because 'at least it won't hurt'....????

2. Please list for me the accomplishments of Barrack Obama. We know the two offices he's held, the books he's written about himself and the speeches he's given. List the actual accomplishments that have been done because Obama was on the planet.

3. Everyone has a speech writer. That isn't the point. At least the writer gave permission for her to use their words. Look into Biden's past with plagiarism.

Palin passed her first test with flying colors! I just think it'd be funny/sad if she and JM got in and he died, so that she'd beat out HC to be the 1st woman prez. Betcha that would chap HC's hide!

Not a chance. I feel Obama would be a good leader for the country. If it came down to voting for voting for the less mediocre of two candidates, then I wouldn't vote just to vote.
2. Please list for me the accomplishments of Barrack Obama. We know the two offices he's held, the books he's written about himself and the speeches he's given. List the actual accomplishments that have been done because Obama was on the planet.
If you want to play this game that is fine...

State senate:
- added health insurance for 20,000 kids
- increased minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.50
- police interrogation reform to have interrogations video taped became mandatory
- accurately depicted long unspecified time frame and cost for war in Iraq which lead to civil war

Federal senate:
- worked to organize program to safely locate and dismantle leftover Russian weapons of mass destruction from cold war
- Major ethics reform making banning gifts from lobbyists

I'm not saying he is the most experienced candidate ever, but what he has done should be commended. What I look at is the state of the country and in my opinion it is a lot worse off than it was eight years ago. I feel that Obama has the best chance to make this country thrive again economically.
3. Everyone has a speech writer. That isn't the point. At least the writer gave permission for her to use their words. Look into Biden's past with plagiarism.
  • It's easy to write a speech when more than half the time you belittle and get sarcastic about one liners that were made months ago and have very little to do with how to improve the country.

there are zillions of these points already being made on here...don't start it here too....selling someone on your product by only bashing the alternatives is a no no in the sales profession (at least its supposed to be) and i believe it should spill over into the political ring...

"your guy said this"

"well your guy said this"

sorry we aren't talking about my guy we are talking about your guy (in this case republicans).

its happens more with the left if you ask me. but i see it on both sides and it drives me bananas...

i hate to break this to everyone, but the president doesn't have alot to do with the economics of the country....he has a part but its a very small part.

as a resident of illinois, the man really only has the iraq thingy going for him...the rest of his state legislation experience was pandering to shady and crooked chicago business men.
