The Big Ten started its own network.
The SEC did not have to start its own network.
ESPN started it for them.
That’s the gist of today’s staggering announcement. The Worldwide Leader bought the SEC brand, lock, stock and barrel. ESPN is paying an unprecedented $2.25 billion to broadcast all events – including football games not telecast by CBS – over the next 15 years.
