WEST LIBERTY - When looking back on his first full year leading West Liberty State College, President Robin Capehart attributes love for the institution as the reason for his successful first term.
"It was a very good year," Capehart said. "We have had a good year and the reason has been because all of the people at this school the faculty, the staff, the students, the benefactors all truly love this school and the opportunity it's providing them now, and the opportunity it's provided them in the past. They are excited about moving forward into university status. It's been such a good year."
A former gubernatorial candidate, Capehart succeeds Richard Owens who resigned from the president's post in 2005. John McCullough served as West Liberty's interim president following Owens' resignation.
Capehart began his role as the 33rd president of the college last July, with plans to utilize his political roots and a goal of acquainting himself with WLSC campus life.
Over the past year, Capehart has taken several steps to move West Liberty from college to university status. The West Liberty State College Board of Governors approved changing the intuition's name to West Liberty University - once all of the requirements are met.
