Not necessary. At least not yet. Proof of how bad Vista is is that more and more manufacturers are now offering XP as an option again. I'm so glad I waited to buy my new Dell Vostro laptop. They were only offering what I wanted with Vista. I was going to bite the bullet and buy it (with at least 2G of RAM to account for the enormous Vista appetite for memory). Then they started offering the same model with XP and I snatched it up. Couldn't be more pleased.

Whadda ya know. I am now an inferno! :flamingdevil :pbjtime :dance

I've had a vista laptop for about 10 months now. I've had less problems with it than I did with XP in the equal amount of time.

I'm with 84 concerning lack of problems on my laptop. But my desktop has been one nightmare after another.

I'm getting used to Vista finally. I still don't like it as much as XP but it's growing on me. I really like the look and layout of Vista but its performance makes me want to scream at time. Hopefully they'll get us a decent service pack soon that will fix a lot of the bugs...

I got an e-mail about this the other day. Supposedly SP1 will be available any day now - which in Microsoft lingo means anytime between tomorrow and who knows when. I also heard there have been so many problems they changed the o/s kernel for Vista in SP1.

I have a Dell desktop, which I got in December 2006. With that deal, I got a voucher to get Microsoft Vista. I received the disks, but I never opted to install it until yesterday.

Yes, it looks nice. But it slowed down my computer considerably... and I was going to have to go through another few downloads in order to get things (such as my sound) working again. I said, "nuts to this", and now I'm in the process of doing a system restore on my desktop to XP.

I don't like Vista. However, I'm learning to live with it. I just added another 512 meg memory dimm, to give me over a gig of RAM...and that helped a lot.

I'm running Vista on a Athalon 64 3800 + with over a gig of memory...and performance wise, it is just a little faster than my Cyrix C3 (like a Pentium 3) 800mhg with 256 megs of memory running Win 98.

However, the look of Vista is better. And I do like it that it asks you when programs want to run in the background.

I run vista on a new high-end home computer, fast processor (dual core thingy), 2 gigs ram, zero problems, looks & runs great.
I run XP on 2 dell high-end laptops, both fast processors, 2 gigs ram, zero problems, looks & runs great.
I doubt anyone actually cares about any of this.....

They have been handing out the SP1 to tech analysts for several weeks now and apparent;y a few more bugs were found. As a result the availability to us consumers has been pushed back again. I can't want to get it on our desktop.

*phew*! It was a total of 48 hours from the time I started Vista to the time when I could say that my computer was usable again. I had to do a system creboot, and stinkin' Dell doesn't include all of its drivers in its reboot disc. So, I had to wipe my computer clean, get XP installed, installed my anti-virus software, installed enough drivers that enabled me to get internet access, downloaded windows updates, downloaded drivers off of Dell's website, then downloaded driver off of Nvidia's website... and lastly, downloaded iTunes.

The thing about iTunes is that I can only have 5 computers authorized under my account. Every time I reboot my computer (going from XP to Vista to XP again counts as three), so I wasn't able to authorize my computer to listen to my music.

I e-mailed the Apple guy. He told me not to worry. I'm not.
