Bentley Unveils First FCS Class

Written by: Presbyterian College Athletics
Release: 02/06/2008

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College head football coach Bobby Bentley unveiled PC’s first ever NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision signing class on National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

Staying strong to his core mission of focusing his recruiting efforts in the Palmetto State, Bentley’s first FCS class features 20 players from the state of South Carolina.

Bentley and his staff did manage to go out of state for some strong recruits. In fact, PC’s signing class features five players from the state of Georgia and five players from North Carolina. The Blue Hose signed one player from Florida.

“I think we are bringing in a solid group of student-athletes for Presbyterian College,” said Bentley. “Our coaching staff has done an excellent job of fulfilling our priority needs at defensive back, receiver, and on the offensive line.

Is it creepy that you can buy large photos of individual people?

like, if anybody is going to their site and buying 20X30 print of a single cheerleader, they should probably worry.

Struggle? They beat CCU & VMI this past year. They'll compete with that gadget offense but they won't be knocking us off the throne anytime soon.

Touche

But the CCU win on the road did show they are right there already as a midling. Then we showed them at Williams Stadium that they have a long way to go to snatch any titles.

That wasn't Bentley's doing; the school has photos tagged and for sale with most of the articles on the athletics website. Wait, blaming BB for stuff he doesn't have control over, especially egosim? Hmm...never heard THAT one before.

Anyway, I don't know why we didn't recruit bigger linemen. Some of our newest receivers are taller and only 30 lbs lighter than some of the "big uglies." Maybe the big ones who we thought were in the pipes went elsewhere. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. Although I don't want to see a lot of guys this size on the field, Sherman Burnett, at only 6'0", 220 lbs, made a 52 tackles this season and 13.5 for a loss. Even though he's relatively puny, he was actually smaller when he got to PC! Yikes. They'll get bigger and quicker, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

If Bentley didn't want it to be done, it wouldn't be done. Yea, the athletic department may want to do it, but when coaches don't want things like that done, most of the time the people up top listen.

This may be the most complex Offensive Philosophy ever
Offensive Philosophy

To score as many points as possible
Ability to throw the ball at any down and distance
Lead the conference in yards per rush
Be very inventive with our schemes
Give up no turnovers
To allow no lost yardage plays
Always score when we enter the +20
Recognize and praise aggressive/key blocks
Be good at something- passing the football
Be able use tempo change ups with our no huddle offense
Have the ability to check off to proper plays

As the head coach of a transitioning I-AA football program which just brought in thirty new recruits, I think he has more on his mind than a freaking picture of himself above an article. I certainly don't think he can really be criticized for not going out of his way to change something so inconsequential. I feel like some of y'all are just looking for things to hold against BB, like calling the guy arrogant because he was reading on a bench before the LU game. That's fine, though; do what you want. After a while, though, it just gets to be a little ridiculous and you come across as a bunch of haters. But whatever floats your boat.

Also, never heard of this nickname
The Hurlin’ Hose were especially prolific in 2007 in the friendly confines of Bailey Memorial Stadium.

The reason PC's defense was terrible? Bentley's offensive philosophy is three pages long. His defensive philosophy is barely a page.

Both true, although the only thing I remember hearing about the reading the book was that we thought it was the same textbook from LU's coaching football class.

Boy we got you riled up

Actually their philosophy has roughly the same number of bullet points. The 3 pages is for all the cool stuff they did, like score

I remember just making fun of him for laying on a bench with his feet propped up reading a book an hour and a half before the game. I don't ever remember saying it was arrogant.

I think what got most of us riled up at him was the timeout in the 4th quarter...
