ok i know some kids at LU are sheltered, but i think the majority know what sex, STD'S and what not are all about. i see dickens point but i have to disagree.

i cannot fathom the idea of an 18/19 year-old kid not knowing about sex. i'm sure many have questions about some aspects, but it's hard to believe with the media's influence and the influence of the modern-day college kid, that someone could be oblivious to abstinence, safe sex, STDs, etc.

i do not think it necessary for LU to have a required class concerning this topic. i believe GNED discussions can lead pretty far into sex talk... i know mine did a few times.

I talk to my high school boys about this all the time (those who play basketball for me). Basically if they ask me a question about sex/relationships, I'll answer it as best I can. The one opinion I share with them is that sex isn't the most destructive thing you can do outside of marriage in a relationship. Parents, and others often push kids to have exclusive relationships in high school. Basically telling them to have a mature, adult relationship, but NO SEX. What ends up happening is that these kids end up becoming emotionally bonded to the point that when a breakup happens (it is virtually inevitable for high school kids), it is like a divorce. The vast majority never had sex (to my knowledge). They end up depressed, hating each other, bitter, and carry deep wounds for a long time. There has got to be something wrong with it. IMO it would be less damaging if they just hooked up one night for sex, and never went out again, than to get into this "deep/mature" relationship in which they are both unable to handle. I'm definitely not advocating it, but wondering what your guys opinions are. Especially you with older kids.

I agree with what you're saying. I was in the same position once. I dated a girl from the time I was 16 until I was 22. We never had sex. I ended up depressed and it took a LONG time to get over it. It's like my whole future was looking forward to having sex on my wedding night and then 2 months before the wedding, it all ended. That was a major hit. It would have been much easier if she had been just a one night stand back in high school but it progressed so much further. I was always very frustrated and irritable because I was a guy with desires that weren't been met for 5+ long years. It was very traumatic. Sure, the fact that I missed her had a lot to do with it but it wasn't everything. A lot was the fact that I had saved myself for this chick for all this time and still never got any...

We live in the information age, and the internet is available to all. If a college kid is ignorant on sex today, they are just too lazy to figure it out IMO.

I would just like to state that their was a guy in mine and dickens dorm two years ago that did not know what a vagina was. So maybe sometimes, even though it's hard for some of us to comprehend, some kids come here and don't really know what sex is.
