Just to be the cynical one here.... What part of this decision is based on his grades? I did hear rumors, not saying they are true, but throwing it out there, that he was a little shaky in the academic areas. That was a reason he did not leave last year with Dees. Just wondering

Wish him the best, hope he gets some good exposure. As far as the grade situation goes though.....would you rather have Larry blair " who may or may not struggle with grades" or Rob Attaway(former LU guard) and his 4.0 gpa along with no basketball IQ and possibly the worst D-1 basketball player i have ever seen. I can even remember Hankinson tellin that kid NOT to shoot, but he always told me " that guy has all the intangibles" hahahahahahah When pressed for what those intangibles were though, he never could give me a straight answer.

Grades are something a lot of quality b-ball players struggle with, but i interviewed Blair when he first got here and he doesn't strike me as challenged in any way. ohh and for the record....of course id rather have Blair haha. Heck if worst comes to worst he can pull a Phil Ward....

I believe you are only allowed one "Phil Ward" per career and he has arlready used his!

You're crazy, Attaway had all the basketball IQ in the world. He just was a terrible player. I don't know of 1 thing he was good at. I always thought to myself, that guy would make one heck of a coach while simultaniously yelling at Mel to get him off the court. But your point still stands. I'll take Blair.

i'm curious to watch that Duke and St Josephs games from a couple of years back (freshman year) and how he did against Reddick and Jameer Nelson. Nelson has been tearing it up this year in Orlando since ole Steve-O left and many people questioned his size and defense ability

Larry has to be careful to make sure that people are shooting him straight. Every year there are 30-40 underclassmen that all believe and are told they will go in the first round. 25-30 of them don't go in the 1st round and many don't get drafted. Team's priorities change, foreign players stocks go up, or simply they were lied to but it happens. This is a nasty business. I have had many conversations with Larry Sr. about Larry over the years and he is seeking advice from folks that can assess LB's true value to certain teams. I know of 2 teams that have shown interest in him after his soph season. Believe me if you are a player, it doesn't matter if you play for UNC or UNCA, they will find you and you will get a chance to show your talents.

Larry didn't have a particularly nice game vs Nelson in the NCAA's. It was Dees that really shined in that game but truthfully nobody did that well that day. St. Joes played great and we didn't play well at all....I was not in Alaska when they played Duke so I can't comment. I watched him hang 29 on MD, 29 on NC State and 31 I think on Kentucky. I was not at the Kent or State games but I watched the tapes. Rajon Rondo had fits trying to guard him. Arizona Reed from HPU had 29 and 17 a few days later so not sure how good Kentucky really was this year. The point is that stuff doesn't matter that much to NBA scouts. They will evaluate him in the combines and they will evaluate the different things he does with and without the basketball. It is not about stats so much with them. There are guys with great college numbers that never get a decent look (Whit Holcome-Faye or Doug Day at Radford are 2 examples over the years).

You are the probably the only person on earth outside of Lynchburg who has noticed that. In fact, I'd bet you're the only person outside of the city that ever reads that site all together. Your mind is already here. You might as well just complete the transaction and move the rest of yourself on down here.

Scar and I were also talking about Nelson @ the baseball game....I went to that game in NY (I think), and I made the statement right after that he will be an impact player in the NBA......he was sick, and honestly one of the best college players under/at 6 foot I've ever seen, he was a man among boys in that game, his step back was so quick you barely saw it....he was that good

Does anyone have the exact dates of when he'll be in Orlando for the draft camp? I believe they are open to the public

I believe NBA Draft camps are closed to the public. At least they were when they were having them at Moody Bible College up in Chicago. You have to have some type of credentials to get in.

How did you travel all the way up to Buffalo and not know where you were?

Based on how every single one of our players was like a deer in the headlights (except Dees, he was stellar) I was really not impressed with Nelson. As the tournament wore on though, and he did the same to better teams, I was jumping on his bandwagon. We only lost that game by 20 despite our terrible play. Just imagine if Gabe had hit a shot, if Larry made his break away dunks  if anything had gone right.

If you are referring to the 03-04 season for women's basketball in the NCAA's then it was in Philadelphia on the campus of Temple University. That game was quite bad against UGA.

Since you guys are bringing up that week... I must say that week one of the best weeks of my life for about 20 different reasons... Nelson, boy was he stud, he was unstopable that game, I got a chance to go talk to him after the game and he was so mad that they had lost to Xavier in the A-10 Tourney that he wanted to destroy us... I still can't decide if the best part of that trip was A. Going around for a 360 on the way up with Scar.... B. Being 19 at the NCAA Tournament and basically having all-acess to wherever I wanted to go or C. Riding with Rober Daski of the N&A all night through a snowstorm to Philly and sitting still in the Penn Turnpike from 4-7AM with the car turned off!!!! Either way that was one heck of a week even though both teams lost pretty bad to St.Joe and Georgia...

I wish Blair all the best, but what a bummer it would be to this team for next year's hopes if he didn't come back.

Since we're talking '03-04 tournament... Scar - you heard anything about what Dees is up to these days?? Is he going to be in the rotation, or start? Also, I noticed you were talking about Blair's performance against Duke in the great alaska shootout... If I remember correctly there were several factors playing in to a less than stellar performance by blair against duke: 1) He was still having to share minutes w/ monceaux 2) woodson (he's my boy, but had a rough night) might of gone for double-digit turnovers (not all his fault though, duke was playing suffocating D across the board), which means that no one was getting good looks at the basket - and 3) the offense was being run through Gabe and the post players.

Is this the return of JVegas

As for Dees, I'm sure he has to not only be starting but he should be their #1 or #2 option. I saw the Ragin Cajuns play this year and he's a much stronger offensive weapon than what they put out there. Hopefully he hasn't taken too much of a shine to Lafayette's cuisine. It is bar none the best Cajun/Creole food in the world.

J Reebs, welcome to the board man! I wonder how you saw this website? Is it from my facebook? Probably not since you are so plugged into Liberty with all of your boys that still go to school here including your brother. Finally someone's signature that makes them instantly recognizable i.e. SCAR . Reebs I am going to embarrass you for a moment and let these guys know that you were and still are one of my all time Flames basketball players. For those of us that got to see you play those 5 minutes of your career, we appreciate your work!!!   . For real though man you could have started on a lot of Big South teams in my opinion but I am glad you stayed here my friend! You were perhaps the most popular walk-on in the history of Liberty division 1 hoops and I am a self proclaimed Liberty division 1 hoops expert....Anyway, back to LB. I do remember watching that Duke game and they were playing lock down D. Plus it would be unfair to judge Larry on his 5th game of his career! But your assessment about it is very accurate (since you were there obviously). I know a lot of people in this program and some are on this board but I gotta tell you I hope you stick around and bring us some more insight! Did I gush enough for you guys? I know Smoothie, RedDog, gmtm, fsn32 and HMO may be a little envious that I didn't give them such a welcome but you guys are still my boys
