Another unimpressive performance by our offense. Not sure what the problem is. Hopefully Jennings and Piningus will provide the spark. Defense was impressive after giving up the TD on their first possession. Next week we are going to find out where we are as a program.

Wynton saved the day. The offensive wasn't that bad, but things got really really slow during the third quarter. Not sure what happened there. What concerned me more than anything was the lack of defensive highlights versus last week's game. They did their job, but the late drive that they allowed was random and unacceptable.

I think next week is 50/50 at this point. It honestly could go either way.

Echoes of last year are ringing in my ears. The defense and special teams are pulling their weight and creating great football moments. Their efforts are making the final score shine more favorably on the effectiveness of the offensive unit as a whole. Their seems to be flashes of "goodness" but a lack of consistency...that can be frustrating to watch. Unfortunately, this seems more "good to the same" as opposed to "good to great."

Although, the two scores within in close proximity near the end of the first half were nice, and the defense and special teams deserve to commended, they are making the games exciting when they are on the field.

Great line, Pete. And I have to agree with you. Two wins are two wins. But when they come in less than stellar fashion against DII competition on our homefield in front of strong support it is somewhat disappointing.

All that said, I look for us to be re-energized by the return of Rashad to the lineup. Its an emotional boost and we'll need it against a team that is clearly MUCH better than they were when we handed them the victory last fall.

I'm not sweating bullets, but its hard not to have some concerns based on an often listless performance. Hopefully the light goes on next Saturday in Williamsburg.

You guys are so bent on the Rashad return that you don't realize we're getting a more important player back next week. Eddie Pinigis, who is a captain by the way, will be in the game. He's the guy this offensive line is used to practicing with. He's one of the leaders of this thing. Rashad's just a cherry on top.

What bothers me is we had 80 yards of offense in the 2nd half. That's all. We never had a drive over 28 yards.

I didn't reference Eddie because my understanding is that he's not a go for sure at this point. But you are correct that he will have a big impact upon his presence on the field.

It seemed as though the guys came out of the locker room at the half ready to coast and burn up the clock. That type of attitude is not in line with what we hear from Coach Rocco. So I am sure he gave those guys some strong instruction tonight after the game.

These are just stats that I'm sure Coach isn't happy with:

2/11 on 3rd downs.

13 less minutes of possession.

They had better starting field position than we did.

Only one drive longer than 6 plays.

I thought Id throw this one out there:

SO does the band still suck?

Figured...I guess we can just chalk this one up to the fact that in the eyes of some, the band will not ever be "good enough". I know that there are things that a band should do and I realize that...but what if we did those things? Then you'd find something else to whine and b**** about that the band doesn't do.

Um, no I wouldn't. I was one of the band's biggest supporters last year. They sounded great on the field. They sound great when they play Hey Baby. The thing is, they're wearing Coastal colors and only playing when we score and when it's time for Hey Baby. There were plenty of breaks tonight where you could've played more and the drum major was literally (I mean literally) twirling their thumbs.

Does the band ever get the percussion section rev'd up? That's one of the best things when watching the Big Time games on TV, hearing the great drumlines rockin' out. In fact, I can hear the public high school's drumlines kicking it out most Friday nights in the fall...great sound IMO.

Wynton Jackson is the man. However the play of the Flames was disappointing. They need to pick it up. We have a very talented team. I hope they start playing up to their potential!

No but it probably wouldn't hurt...I'll talk to the battery leader about getting more into it for the next game and thereafter. And the band not playing enough issue...I can see some validness in that...I can talk to Kevin the head drum major about that and see that it is rectified as well. Now the shirt color reminding you of Coastal...sorry Charlie, youre gonna have to swallow it on that one. Dr Kerr is not gonna go out and order 200 brand new band shirts in a different color, because some folks don't like it. I mean yeah its not the color I would have chosen personally but that is why Im not the band director, Im on the field crew (as a side note btw I am not sure I got to high five any of yall when I was crossing in front of the student section tonight)

BJ, my wife attended her first football game in several years, and the first thing she wanted to know was if that was our band or the other team's. From the baptist side, the Shippensburg coaches were right below you, and it looked like their coaches had the same color polo shirts as the LU band.

Yes, the shirts are the wrong color, but again, they won't be wearing t-shirts when the weather cools down. They'll keep the jackets on for the whole game (or at least, they BETTER keep them on for the whole game).

Seriously, though, are we really complaining about the band when we saw/heard what we did last night from the football team? I'm more concerned about the team driving people from the stands, not the band.

The wrapup from Chris ...
LU posts dominating, but misleading victory

Lynchburg News & Advance

Here's Liberty's conundrum. Sure, it's fun to watch the defense and special teams do all the heavy lifting week in and week out. It happened again Saturday night against Shippensburg. Wynton Jackson returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown and Pat Calvary returned an interception 61 yards for a score in the Flames' 35-14 win at Williams Stadium.

The offense looked better in the first half then they did all of last week. That was a bonus...but then they reverted to their old ways in the second half. The defense didn't play nearly as good as they did last week...Wynton saved us last night with his speed, but we need our offense to be consistent and our defense just seemed to lack focus at points last night...overall, not bad...but as someone said we are suppose to going from good to great, not good to good...next week we are playing an improved William and Mary team...not a great one, but an improved one. Should be interesting, that is for sure.

As for the band issue. That band sounds good when they play. They sounded good at halftime and all of that. They just need to play more often. The shirt thing is a little annoying, but not the biggest deal in the world...

I was sitting with my brother last night and we were talking about the high school band in little Titusville, FL is bigger then the band we have here at Division I Liberty University. That is what I find most unacceptable, the size of our band. I don't know the reasoning behind that, or if it is simply because thats all they can find...but it would be nice to have a larger band that has the size of a Division I school...I suppose that will come in time...

I really don't think the band sucks nearly as bad as some people think on this board...they need some improvements...that is for sure...but I have heard much, much, much worse.....

I think the return of Rashad boosts this team not just for his running ability but another weapon that Brock has out of the backfield. With Rashad focusing on the carries, Zach can be a safety valve and open up some running lanes inside the tackles.

I called down and got the game report last night on my way home- very disappointed to hear that we really didn't build on last week.

I don't know what its going to take to light the fuse on this team- but lack luster wins over DII teams that you are SUPPOSED to crush are not cutting it.

I'm afraid its going to take a beat-down style loss for this team to wake up.
