Why I think its a good idea: many of the reasons already listed by others. I think its a very creative way of honoring Dr. Falwell, at a sporting event - crazy, sloppy, or otherwise. Its something that is VERY uniqu to our university's culture and heritage. Yes, ties date back to earlier days at LU. The red tie symbolizes Dr. Falwell - he was KNOWN for it. Bringing all of that together, for ONE football game is an excellent idea!
And because I think its creative, I recognize SJ's concern for disrupting the trend of wearing red, but I don't think it would damage that. If this is announced at a convo or something, its different than just "hey, wear red." Dr. Falwell's passing is on everyone's mind as they return to campus, especially the first Wednesday convo. With that on everyone's mind, here is a fun way to pay tribute. But, in its uniqueness (word?), it catches the attention of everyone, even many females and non-sports fan males, who are the primary culprits of the same pink, lime green, and light blue colors that were mentioned. After that, I think it helps the "wear red" push, because for week 2, everyone is expecting to be unified in what we wear to a game. So, I think in a way, this could actually help your side of the argument, Jon.
