IMHO this past presidency has shown the importance of a good cabinet. Let's take some time and speculate about who would be in an Obama or McCain cabinet. I am just sticking to the Big Ones, I don't care about the Interior Secretary. Feel free to add your own.

OBAMA:

VP - Jim Webb
Sec State - Joe Biden
Attorney General - John Edwards
Sec of Defense - Wesley Clark

McCain:

VP - George Alen (Ok a reach but not sure on this one)
Attorney Gen - Rudy
Sec Def - Lieberman
Treasury - Romney

Ok that is a start I am sure I will add some later

I would think there's no way McCain picks Allen...not after the remark Allen made that basicially cost him the election last go-round.

McCain needs to have someone like Romney, Petreus, or Watts, but I have no doubt he'll pick some wishy-washy goober like Crist or Lindsay Graham.

There's starting to line up a great potential crop of nominees for the next term, and it would be nice if he'd choose one of them. If he did, he could practically hand pick who the next president would be in 2012.

The trend in vp's is to pick someone who will compensate for a perceived weakness. With McCain, that's the economy. With Obama, it's national defense. I think that's why Haize looked at Jim Webb, because he's a former soldier, but honestly he's about as qualified as John Kerry.

I think that's a funny concept. It's not like they're picking a co-president. They're just fooling stupid voters into thinking, "wow that ticket is the total package"

Isn't fooling stupid voters what the whole process is about?

Agreed. If the VP candidate were so great, shouldn't they have been running for the presidential nomination themselves? And, if they were running and lost out on the nomination, why would the majority of the party then vote for them when the majority of the party has already decided that they weren't good enough?

No way George Allen gets the VP nod...Romney possibly, but LA's governor would be a smart pick as well.
For the Dems, Obama could be pressured to pick Hillary but its highly unlikely. I'm hoping she'll run as an independent just to derail the Dems. Webb's name has been getting thrown around, though I think Warner would be a better choice. Both are popular in Virginia and could turn a traditionally red state blue. Though Warner is also seeking John Warner's Senate seat.

I've heard Webb's name mentioned as a VP candidate because he was Reagan's Navy sec and Obama's weakness is foreign affairs.

His child sex books might be a drawback in some quarters though.

BALD Yes but not with the Democrats. The fact that he is a Sen from a swing state that has Nat'l Sec cred helps Obama. THat way he can go forward with his plans under the guise of his VP "knowing" what works

I told you my McCain pick was crazy but had to throw some name out there. I think Romney would be a good choice, which puts Mitt in between a rock and a hard place. Does he roll the dice with McCain and hope he serves 2 terms or does he hold out , hope McCain loses and run in 12? I thought Graham would be a good choice. I believe he was in on McCains Gang Of 14 but not sure.

I would really question Obama's intelligence if he gave in and picked Hillary. He would be stabbed in the back at every turn, and have to deal with Bill throwing his rather girth weight around!!
