Back in the summer of '06, in the midst of an ever expansive gov't, Republicans decided to roll out another flag burning amendment to rile up the troops before the mid-term elections. It was pure pandering and condescending to conservatives. McCain proposing in Oct the fed gov't buy all bad personal mortgages and re-write interest rates at the expense of other taxpayers (who pay their mortgages) led more conservatives to the sideline.
