I can't say it for sure, but I have to believe that with my 86-year-old grandfather's recent registration to Facebook he should be the oldest in the city ... perhaps the state.

He kept complaining to my dad that he could never see pictures of the his grandkids and great grandkids. So my 65-year-old dad helped him register an account. I have to tell you that I find the whole deal a riot.

Anybody else have elderly relatives getting online?

Elderly relatives I know getting online are probably your age so I will refrain from posting about them.

my wife's grandparents are on facebook which is funny...they are late 60's, so its not nearly as funny as your story Sly...but they are on for the same kind of reason...my wife's parents and siblings are in Indonesia as missionaries, so its easy to just throw pics up on facebook for family to see

It's getting very common for people in their 40s to join Facebook in order to keep up with their kids, but 85 years old is quite the accomplishment, Sly! Congrats to your grandpa. Will he be joining FlameFans next??? :oldhag

My wife's grandmother is 88 and she cruises the web for an hour or two each day. She usually follows that with an hour of Spider Solitaire.

Wow, Sly, your grandpa has his own Wikipedia page. I actually think I quoted him in a paper that I wrote in high school in 1979.

My grandfather was quite the high profile Baptist back in the day. But his Facebook registration is much more impressive to my kids.

I have both parents and a set of grandparents on now. Granted both my grandparents joined only to keep tabs on me.

I continually pray to God that my mom won't register for Facebook. It's one of the few places I can (mostly) be myself, mostly due to the fact that she isn't on there.

I was more impressed with you being friends with Suzanne Somers. (Then my failing eyes clicked in and I realized it was Suzanne Sumner).

My 80 year-old grandparents surf the net all the time. They follow my wife's "mommy blog" and post comments all the time. I thought that was pretty good. Now, facebook? I don't see that happening any time soon.
