My fault, it's just proposed from the NCAA now. It's still by conference.

I have (blurry) shots of everyone rushing the floor in the Vines in '04.

man...rushing the court in 2004 was the best experience I have had at a sporting event...that was back when I was down front at every men's game and was so into it...now at almost 24 i feel kind of odd being down there....but there was group of us that were behind the LU bench for the last 45 seconds, it was funny because LUPD at first tried to tell us no...then the guy was like, "nevermind, go have fun"....which was shocking

it really was a terrible shot....when i saw a replay of it I really could see it...he had plenty of space to get closer if he wanted...he took the shot with 2.5 on the clock....but oh well, they have nothing to be ashamed of...its not like Winthrop is lets say ummm LU...kidding, kidding

The fine against Vandy was leved by the Southeastern Conference.

I think the proposed fine is $5000 the first time and it doubles everytime after that.

You would think the NCAA has better things to worry about, like offensive nicknames and logos with feathers :P

Come on now, SJ... It was an close game to decide the Big South Championship. The fact we had won 6 out of the past 8 didn't matter to the fans. This was the one we were playing now. This was the one to make sure Torrell, Craig, and Phillip made it back to the NCAA Tournament one more time. There doesn't have to be an upset for fans to rush the court. Winning a championship is enough of a reason. I don't really see a problem with it. Having said that, I was not one of the people who rushed the court (it looked to me like most of them were students). I have done it in the past, but sadly I am not in "court rushing" shape anymore. :(

I KNOW I KNOW, I'm late to this party.

but I just read this post (on page 3) and have'nt even gotten to the rest of the thread yet- but had the same thought yesterday.

 :?

how 'bout acting like you've been there before. You just BARELY beat a sub-500 team on your OWN COURT thanks to them MISSING a shot. Don't QUITE think that calls for rushing the court.

In fact, that whole game made me re-think my admiration for this team. After that bracket buster game- I was pretty sure they would cakewalk into the tourney and possibly win a couple. Now, I don't see them even making a run at ONE win.

That was a real eye-opener. For the sake of the BSOUTH, I hope I'm wrong- but looks like this team may have peaked. Either that or Marshall knows how to get the most out of his guys- but failed to do so yesterday.

*I will now read the rest of the thread (post-SJ's comment) and see who agreed and disagreed. I'm WONDERING WhU will have an issue with his comments 8)

ok- read the rest and no-one else jumped on SJ. Disappointing!

sure WEF and REALIST will turn up at SOME point.

still think they better start worrying. I just don't see VMI as the team that should have put THAT kinda scare into WU, though we did the same thing to them at home.

then again, SCAR always says that those conf matchups are the toughest, so who knows.

gotta pull for them in the tourney, anyway.

I think you are now trying to make up for all of the nice things you have said about Winthrop in the past month or so...

It was a close game that Winthrop won (the key word being "won"). To think less of WU because it was close would be to take away from what VMI did yesterday. The were awsome and I think the way they played proved that them making it to the championship game wasn't a fluke.

And really, if Winthrop fans hadn't rushed the court after the game then there would be guys on here (probably SJ and Medic  ) saying that WU fans think they are too good to get excited over winning the Big South Tournament. Bash us if you must, but I know deep down you two are really Winthrop fans (ok, maybe so deep you don't even realize you're WU fans). :D

SuperJon was called a Winthrop fan on the VMI board. Those guys are mean...

Medic, It is hard to win a championship on that day period. The team that got there is playing its best ball at the time and they deserve to be there. Winthrop only won last year by 2 but yet they still ran the table this year. I don't know how worried I would be if I were them based on the criteria you laid out. However losing Martin, Williams and Bradshaw would be cause for concern. Winthrop hasn't lost to any big south opponent since that disaster in Lynchburg over a year ago. They are very, very good. They will definitely lose Marshall after this season. Gaynor Jenkins and the other Juniors will be going for #4 of 4 next season without some key players. This could be the end of the Dynasty but I am sure that is the last thing on their minds at this point. As for SJ, I would say that you must not have ever actually won a championship man because THAT is cause for celebration regardless of how many times you did it in the past. You think the Patriots would have just taken the Superbowl trophy and walked off the field really calm if they had won it this year? I don't. The only group I have ever seen not celebrate a Championship is our lady Flames. When they won it the last 3 years that I have been there, I have been stunned to see how quiet and subdued the celebrations have been.

Celebrating as a team is fine. I just don't think rushing the court when you beat the 6th place team in the conference is called for. That's my opinion.

I've won things before and it's a great feeling.

Here's my best way to describe it:

My junior year my high school made the playoffs in baseball for the first time in school history (only the 4th year it was open). We won the first game and celebrated.

The next year, we lost the first round.

The year after that, we won the first round. We didn't celebrate because we'd already been there before. We won the 2nd round but didn't celebrate because we had been there before. We won the third round to go to the state semis and celebrated because we were going into unchartered waters and a place that no other team at the school had done.

My old high school won its first state championship for basketball ever yesterday afternoon...Id be willing to bet that the contingent that was there rushed the court (along with the team). Big wins like that warrant rushing the court. Winning for the 7th time in 9 years is just routine. Now the ODU women were down to I believe it was Delaware in the CAA championship last year and they came back and won it in the end...the team celebrated but you didn't see all the ODU fans in attendance charging the court...Now Id be willing to venture that since the game was on national TV the fans got caught up in the moment (TV can do that to ya), and that I really don't mind. I mean it gets old after a while when your fa fan of one of the other schools if you see the same team and their fans rush the court, but it is TV and seeing celebration like that looks good.

When there is still business within the conference to take care of, I am against a big celebration. When you win a region in the NCAA's you still have work to do but not until you get to the final 4 so I say it is ok to rush the court then. If you have a net cutting celebration and a trophy being awarded, I think rushing the court is fine. SJ you are just more conservative in this area than I am but that's ok.

It wasn't a rushing of the court for beating VMI per se...it was rushing the court for winning the championship. It could've been CSU or LU or HPU and the fans would've done the same thing. Either way, I understand what you are saying, but I'll tell you right now, if WU wins the tournament again next year, the same thing will happen, regardless of opponent, preseason expections, etc.
