We have people like that at Asheville as well. One guy said he would root for Duke over UNCA because a loss to Duke would mean more than a win for UNCA. That people would never let him forget about Duke losing to UNCA. (Similar to the way we aren't going to let UNC fans forget about College of Charleston.) I went back last year for homecoming and was hanging out in the dorms and one guy said he wasn't going to the homecoming game b/c he had to watch UNC / Maryland on TV. Get out of here, dude.
I grew up a diehard Duke fan. My parents went to Duke. I still am a diehard Duke fan. But during the Duke / UNCA game last year, I was yelling at the officials to call a foul on Duke, calling Paulus a flopper, saying "Hey Gerald, Don't miss it!" when he was at the free throw line (K didn't kick me out), etc. I wanted UNCA to win by 30.
I'm kind of like Adam as well, but I think you get a pass for grad school. I went to UNC (dark period of my life), but my time there actually made me hate the Tar Heels even more. It's a good school and I met some good friends there, but I'm a Duke fan. No way of getting around it. But just because I'm a Duke fan doesn't exactly mean that I wanted to pay 50K per year when I could get roughly the same education eight miles down the road at a much, much cheaper price.
