I don't know if anyone else does, but I find fan groups for bench players slightly annoying. Baker and Monroe have done nothing for our program yet , as well as Corning. When I was at LU Reeber was a fan favorite, but he was more likable than these guys and he was money from 3. It always made more sense to show some love to the guys who get things done. When you look at the NBA there are no benchee clubs. I am a Heat fan, and when you go to Miami, there is no Doleac's Dodo's or something. It is all about who gets it done on the court, Wade, O'neal, and Haslem etc... Just my opinioin though.

thats because Miami fans could never lower themselves to do that.....there are fan favorites everywhere...in Orlando there is 2 or 3 players that don't play much that have their fans: Travis Deiner, Bo Outlaw, and JJ you know who(simply because of the Duke tie in)....but none of these players get much playing time, but when they come in the crowd always cheers...people like the underdogs...its the way it is....and no offense dude...but Reber may have been money from the 3...but he was so slow he couldn't get his shot off unless he was WIDE open.....

These fan clubs that exists for specific players are usually friends of the players and do so in support of their friends. Nothing wrong with that.

mrich - Are you okay? The one thing the students do well, and your going to fault them for it. That's college basketball. Friends cheering for friends. I love it too, becuase Monroe needs that - he needs that confidence to know that students love him and the crowd is going to go crazy when he gets an opportunity to play, to change the game with a dunk. Did he dunk last year?

I'm going to ignore the Corning and Reeber comments. They were fun to see get in, only becuase it meant we were up by a bunch:)

Russell's group is actually growing. The first time they were out there, they had half the crowd cheering for him.

Ok, OK, I take back the Monroe and Baker comments. I was just saying that it was annoying when people cheer the whole game for a guys who plays 5 minutes. The whole time you are thinking, please God don't put __________ in. Whatever, if somone wants to scream let them scream. I can only watch from home now anyways.

The only time Baker's Bunch says anything is when he's in the game.

Yeah I remember we made up a sign for Lee and RD just looked at us and shook his head. It was ridiculous, yeah but when that season was going the way it was we really needed something to cheer about.

SJ - Glad lunch went well. What was his name?

RICH _ as a fomer "Bench Player" it was great to have your own cheering section. It usually got the other players fired up also. OF course the chant was going on when we were up or down alot, never when it was a 2 point game!!! It was also fun, being recognized at least.

TBGB/MANGER - THe concert idea has been floated a lot over the years. At one point we even had a band lined up GRATIS that studenst would have come out to see. The "road blocks" that were ran into A) A certain administrator who will remane nameless, but still looks like Gargomyle, didn't like the band choice. B) Band choice C) Staff to convert from basketball game to concert setting. Sound Checks, crew to set up and tear down in a good amount of time so that peeps don't leave. D) Cost. With the new "Regime" having access to more money, this may no longer be a problem, BUT the others remain

They don't have to set up a huge stage for a concert like that right after a game. Throw the tarp over the floor and have them set up right there. Believe me, those are some of the most fun shows out there.

It would have to be more than a tarp. There is some "foam" padding squares some arenas use, but for acustics, etc, especially in the Vines, you need a little bit more than that. Great idea though. ( I am thinking of someone else who had that idea,,,, can't recall now but I do know he was strikingly handsome and highly intelligent!)

Ok, here's the deal. Nothing is finalized and we still have to work a ton of stuff out, but this is what I proposed to Coach Dunton, and me and TBGBG are going to work through Christmas break to get things settled:

I want to turn Faith in the Furnace into something that the SFC should've been.

First and foremost, we're going to emphasize the Faith in the title. We're going to emphasize faith in God through the Scriptures and the Faith in the program through fan support.

I want to have weekly meetings. They tried this with the SFC but the meetings were too boring for anyone to want to show up. They were also at a horrible time. These meetings will by no means be mandatory, but my goal is to make you want to come to them. We will discuss the Scripture for that week first and foremost. After that, we'll talk about what we have during that upcoming week. If there's an away game that is close by (Longwood, Radford, VMI) then we will try to coordinate some type of car pool to the game so that we can get fan support at the away games. Along with this will be "information" on the team we're playing that week.

Of course, we could do all of that in an e-mail, but those get old. People want interaction, they want to be around their friends, and they want to make new friends. At the meetings I'm wanting to have fun/goofy contests or games. Hopefully they won't last over 30 minutes and then afterwards we can go out to eat or something. If we can, I'd love to get the team to these meetings but it might not always be possible.

Kids will support something that they feel they are a part of.

I'm also going to be making banners and hanging them up on campus (getting permission first) to help get the word out.

There are other things I want to do that I have to figure out exactly how to do them and if they're even possible to do.

As you guys know, this is something I feel very passionate about. I want to do this the right way, and with Coach's backing, I have no doubt it'll be done that way. He wants 4000 kids at the games, and if we keep winning, and I do this the way that I know I can, we'll get that.
