Ok, here's the deal. Nothing is finalized and we still have to work a ton of stuff out, but this is what I proposed to Coach Dunton, and me and TBGBG are going to work through Christmas break to get things settled:
I want to turn Faith in the Furnace into something that the SFC should've been.
First and foremost, we're going to emphasize the Faith in the title. We're going to emphasize faith in God through the Scriptures and the Faith in the program through fan support.
I want to have weekly meetings. They tried this with the SFC but the meetings were too boring for anyone to want to show up. They were also at a horrible time. These meetings will by no means be mandatory, but my goal is to make you want to come to them. We will discuss the Scripture for that week first and foremost. After that, we'll talk about what we have during that upcoming week. If there's an away game that is close by (Longwood, Radford, VMI) then we will try to coordinate some type of car pool to the game so that we can get fan support at the away games. Along with this will be "information" on the team we're playing that week.
Of course, we could do all of that in an e-mail, but those get old. People want interaction, they want to be around their friends, and they want to make new friends. At the meetings I'm wanting to have fun/goofy contests or games. Hopefully they won't last over 30 minutes and then afterwards we can go out to eat or something. If we can, I'd love to get the team to these meetings but it might not always be possible.
Kids will support something that they feel they are a part of.
I'm also going to be making banners and hanging them up on campus (getting permission first) to help get the word out.
There are other things I want to do that I have to figure out exactly how to do them and if they're even possible to do.
As you guys know, this is something I feel very passionate about. I want to do this the right way, and with Coach's backing, I have no doubt it'll be done that way. He wants 4000 kids at the games, and if we keep winning, and I do this the way that I know I can, we'll get that.
