Talked with Paul Rutigliano today and Chris came up in the discussion. Nothing new or groundbreaking, except for whats already been said. They are real excited about Chris.

I don't think he's going to get a shot at playing with McKay's boys this year, only because he probably is going to get some action as a true freshman. I could even see him moving in to a slot position, before the middle of the year. In year two, he's going to be a real threat in our offense.

Definitely creates matchup problems lining up in the slot.

Chris was second team, 3-A, Florida All-State in basketball.

Louisville and Miami are both pass oriented. Could this be a sign that we'll see a more open offense in the future.

Its like I said before...this kid can jump right in and be like Darnell Edwards was for us, a big possession receiver who we can go to in those goal to go situations against teams with smaller DBs

Hey SJ, I didn't. Can you give us an Offensive Synopsis?

We're a run oriented team, that's not changing. However, with a more seasoned QB, we're throwing a lot of screen passes, a lot of hitches, and a lot of deep balls. We're not going 10-15-20 yards deep every pass play, but we went for the home run more than once in that game. A lot of spring ball was spent on the screen passes and the deep ball.

Either way, Brock's got to take his game up a level with this kid in the lineup.

Why's he got to take it up a level simply because of this kid? I hope we've all learned that just because they've had I-A offers doesn't mean they're saviors. We've got two very good receivers starting right now, along with Zach. If this kid is good enough to get significant playing time then we're in for a treat, but he's got quite a bit ahead of him before we anoint him to even the slot receiver.

Reagarless of the new kid, with this kind of weaponry, there are no more excuses for Brock. He either lives up to expectations this year or we move on to the next guy.

Personally, I'm pulling for Brock, and I hope that he comes through and gets it done.

Um, there was a reason he was named most improved player and a captain this year.

No matter what designations he has received ( and im not saying he doesn't deserve them ) he still has something in my mind to prove on the field as well. A lot of us have pretty high expectations ( justified or not ) and he has to come out of the gates very consistent this year.

Did you not see the Western Carolina, Charleston Southern, or VMI games last year?

Here are his numbers after the W&M game. None of them are extremely impressive, but they're solid, consistent numbers which is what we need in this system. Only one game was bad, and even then not horrible.

15-24 163 yards, TD
11-17 127 yards, 2 INT
11-20 161 yards, TD, INT
12-17 224 yards, 2 TD
8-12 127 yards, 1 TD

I'm not necessarily concerned with the numbers as much as I'm concerned with winning. I'd like to see Brock take us down the field for a game winning drive every now and then. Again, I'm pulling for him and hope that he delivers this year.

We were 3-2 in those games, losing by a combined 5 points (the secondary meltdown against GWU and the unsportsmanlike penalties at Coastal). Also, against Towson he was leading us down the field before one of the receivers "fumbled." You can't blame that on him. Against VMI, when they brought it within two points twice, he led us down the field to a touchdown. Against W&M he put us in position to win. You ask to get in field goal range to win the game. He did that, and we missed. Once again, not his fault.

I'm not blaming him. I'm just expecting more and I'm sure that he expects more of himself as well. Again, I support the guy, and I'm hoping that he packs a bigger punch this season and delivers in the clutch. If he does, we'll most likely see the playoffs.

That's a bold statement. Sure, I would love to make the playoffs this year, and I think we can. But with our schedule we would have to go 10-1 to be in consideration of a playoff spot.

Brock does need to be consistent in every game, from Tusculum to GW and all games in between. I know he has the capability to do it, but he has still yet to do so. I'm sure he will this year though.

I was thinking a record of 9-2 with losses to Toledo and either William & Mary or Elon, and we can still get in the playoffs. With Thigpen from CCU in the NFL and G&W in rebuilding mode, 9-2 or even 10-1, should be attainable. Secondly, if Rocco is as good as we say he is, and I believe he is by the way, then that needs to be factored in as well. So, why not a 9-2 or 10-1 record? It's not out of the question as far as I'm concerned, especially if Brock steps it up.

You have no clue what you're talking about.

W&M is going to be worse this year than they were last year.

Elon lost their starting QB and biggest threat on defense and will be pretty bad this year.

G-W being in a rebuilding mode? Are you on crack? They're the other team many are picking to be at the top with us.

If we lose to anyone besides Toledo, G-W, or CCU this year then we're done. Period. We have to win 10 games to even be considered for the playoffs.

You're letting the fact that W&M is in the CAA and Elon in the SoCon get in the way of the fact that they're not going to be good.

Also, why should how good the coach is be factored into playoffs? The only way how good a coach is should be factored into the playoffs is how many teams his teams win.

Just pointing this out:

We have 9 games on our schedule that are counted towards the playoffs. We have to win 7 of them. Losing two games would put us as a 7-win team. When's the last time a 7-win team from a conference without an auto-bid made the playoffs?

Hasn't Coastal been getting in with a couple of losses every year?

Or is the difference between us and them, our bowl division games which apparently count against us?
