Alright, some hard news...I do hope that Toman gets on the ol horn and gets to talkin to Sid. I think itd be cool to have a former Major Leaguer on staff again (I would be particularly interested as Bream scored the winning run in the NLCS in 1992..something that Pirates fans will probably still dispute)

You have to be able to pay assistants and I doubt Sid would be interested in that kind of pay structure, but who knows. That is all the more reason that as we are financially able, that we support the programs with our $ as well as our attendance. Hopefully Toman can get a staff together soon.

This is what I said a week ago. He wants to be in college baseball, he wants to be closer to Liberty University, heck he wanted to be AT Liberty University but he was not given a interview even at his alma mater which to me is a slap in the face. Even if your mind was made up about who you want, just do it out of courtesy, I think we owe that to him. I'm not the biggest fan of having a mind made up without interviewing everyone interested. Heck they wont even talk to former players about being an assistant coach.

Well, the good news is our alumni and former staff are making impacts:
Rick Reeves: Former Women's BBall Coach, currently running Gardner-Webb's program
Chris Phillips: Former Volleyball Coach, also at Gardner-Webb as head volleyball coach
Chuck Birch: Former AD, now at Gardner-Webb
Jerri Porter: Former Women's BBall player, now head coach of Radford
and now Sid Bream could be the next one at Radford.

Nothing against Sid Bream, but do you really think the 92 NLCS would be a selling point in recruiting kids who are 16-18 now? They were barely alive then.

Although I dont believe you can recruit at Liberty University if you dont have someone on staff who can say "look, I've had to go to convo 3 days a week, I know what it's like to live on campus, and when I was here it was a lot tougher then what it is today, and not to mention if you perform good enough you'll get a chance to play professional baseball like myself"


LU is far different from a SC or wherever else. Kids are very uncertain about this environment but when they hear it from someone who has been there done that and succeeded it changes everything

Rocco did have some alum's on staff. By the way, the new Steelers coach is thrilled they interviewed him "just for the heck of it" considering they didnt want him at all when they brought him in, things change. I just hope light is shed on this situation for those who are unaware.

Yes, I admit that during the season I thought the Bream/Guetterman combo would've been GREAT for our program. However, Jim Toman is so far ahead of them right now in terms of coaching experience it's not even funny.

"Randy, I have a head coach picked out but I'd like to bring you in and talk to you about the possibility of an assistant or pitching coach position." Thats not hard.

So you're required to keep someone in the loop who willingly left less than a year before?

Yea, Tomlin and Royer may not have gotten along, but maybe Barber thinks Tomlin will leave right before the season again if him and Toman don't get along.

When you up and leave a month before the season, I'm pretty sure it could rub some people the wrong way.

I thought you followed our football team? We've had several, not in a position like OC or DC but that doenst matter, it's still being able to have recruits go around with and talk to them about when they were here. I dont care if they are in a RB coach or DB coach or not, they're here.

We have no current coach: position coach, DC, OC, etc that is a Liberty alum. Coach Rocco's been here since 2006. Since then, there has not been an alum in a coaching position.

They are in a position similar to a Grad Assistant in baseball theres about 3 or 4 they work with DB's and RB's or line. I'm done talking to you though, you seem to think you know everything but its hard when your on the sidelines and dont actually see things first hand. Just because you sit on the front row doesnt mean you actually see it from the players perspective.

GA's are generally the ones that take the player around after they met with the coach!

If you consider what Tomlin did "quiting" then you truly have no clue what went on behind closed doors, I dont know how he made it as long as he did. Dr. Falwell and RT were on the same page when he left, and it was well understood what would take place in the following months.
