Brock University is schedued to tip off the men's basketball season against two NCAA Division I teams in September.

On Saturday, Sept. 1, the Badgers host the Liberty University from Lynchburg, Va.
, in a 2 p.m. start at Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Do international exhibitions fall under different rules? Winthrop took their summer trip to New Zealand last year under some waiver. Could this apply here?

I really doubt it. A coach isn't even allowed to glance over at his players during a spontanious pick-up game before that date. It seems like if that were a loophole, every coach in america would be working his kids to death across the border every summer.

I'm searching the NCAA D-I Manual...
...but the danged thing won't load. I found a reference from 2000 about exhibitions against teams from Canada ALLOWED before the first official competition date...but I infer that would still be AFTER Oct 15.

This is completely legal. Coastal did it and went to Puerto Rico Buzz's first year. You can do it once every four years.

WHEN did they do it? Most of the exhibitions are either in the summer...or after Oct 15.

The only thing I found was that more than 4 athletes can be at a workout AFTER Sept 15...and that exhibitions cannot start until around Oct 30...

I remember Uconn playing in a tourney in England against English teams and a few years ago duke traveled Europe. I just can't remember when it was.

To specify that an institutional foreign tour may not occur during the period beginning 30-days before the first permissible practice date until the first permissible date for a contest or date of competition in the championship segment of the institution's playing and practice season in the applicable sport.

well...not exactly. coastal played in costa rica, not puerto rico. and it was early september (labor day'ish).

I guess they could technically just go up for the weekend..i'm not sure exactly how it works..

NOT SURE IF THEY ARE A CANADIAN POWERHOUSE.

LAST YEAR THEY PLAYED FLORIDA, BYU, AND UTAH. HERE WERE THE RESULTS:

(L) TO FLA 107-51 (WE LOST FLA 89-58)
(L) TO BYU 90-49 (we lost 73-59)
(L) TO UTAH 92-53

so we should be able to squeak out a 25 point victory

their roster shows their tallest guy at 6'7", so they should be no match on the boards. looks like in all games they were 24-14 last year. Sounds like LSU is heading to play against another Ontario team. This is becoming more common. UVA played in Montreal I think when Singletary was a frshmen and TJ was a soph.

This is a good-sized school just across the river from Niagara Falls. This could probably start a whole other topic on whether or not we'll ever see the day when Canadian schools are admitted to the NCAA. But we'll save that discussion for later.

This is totally legal...Coach wanted to get his guys together and get a few games under there belt before October....Also this is a great team bonding trip and a it gives the team a chance to see how far they are in the system....This is a very smart move on Coach McKay's part....
