Thank you, Bobby Petrino.
Area prospect has new home
Former Ribault wideout Summers, who lost a Louisville offer, heads for Liberty.

By TYRONE GAYLE, The Times-Union

Like most top college football prospects, Chris Summers anxiously awaited his chance to sign on the dotted line of a letter of intent. In December, he accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Louisville.

But a coaching change from Bobby Petrino to Steve Kragthorpe changed everything for the wide receiver, a recent Ribault High School graduate.

"Coach Petrino left for the NFL back in the beginning of the year, but I was still in contact with the quarterbacks coach there [Jeff Brohm]," Summers said. "But the Friday before signing day, they told me they signed a guy instead of me, after already offering me a scholarship in December. It was like I fell off the map or something."

...this may have been a blessing in disguise
For him, as well as for us!

We have a nice group of receivers returning, but not much size, so at 6'6" he may be able to make an immidiate impact in certain situations. I'd be interested in knowing if he still plans to play hoops too.

This kid is a stud. Good hands, physical. I was wondering what he was gonna do after Louisville pulled his schollie. He is a great athlete too, I believe he was all First Coast in basketball. Great pick up for us. Go Flames!

If this kid plays right away I could see him in a role much like Darnell Edwards, particularly in goal to go situations. Somebody with that kind of height would be great to send on a fade to the corner like they did with Edwards for both our TDs in the Wake Forest game last year

Great pick up for us. Can't wait to see him on the field. Hopefully he's been working out this spring and summer. Will he just be playing WR or TE, or both?

He's a wideout. Not even 200 pounds (at least til Gillespie and Williams get ahold of him).

He will bulk up, probably be around 205 or more by the time he's a senior, either way I cant see him blocking lb's or de's. Im guessing (hoping) he stays at receiver.

I'll be nice and just say that its been my long held belief that we could upgrade a bit at that position.

though the issue is both part talent and part effort (IMHO)

and NO, I've never been a WR - I just calls 'em as I sees 'em

The reason I ask is because, I thought I saw him listed on here as a TE, when we first heard of him.

He's WR all the way. May turn into a kick returner, I don't know.

Any of our eyes & ears on campus know if Coach Rocco is letting him hang with Coach McKay's squad this next year?

Sly I was wondering the same thing although in high school he primarily played with his back to the basket...at 6-6 he might be more of a 3 than a 4 or 5 atthis level.

Whoa! This guy was close to a Miami offer, but they didn't have any more 'ships to give out. Trust me. I am a die hard 'Canes fan and some fans were disappointed we didn't offer this kid. So, if Miami thought well of him and Louisville's old coaching staff wanted him, he is a steal in my opinion!

That seems to be the general consensus, Blessed1. Sometimes I combination of good fortune and being in the right place at the right time can be very beneficial for a school in our position.

I'm betting HE can steamroll a DB who's 5'9" and 159 lbs 8)

Well, that DB would be on our team so hopefully there would be no steamrolling going on over him.

Props to Charlie Skalaski also. Jacksonville is part of his territory and we all know LU isn't the easiest school to sell to recruits.

Coach Skalaski has been a beast for us in the Sunshine State for years. Hopefully he can continue to build on these recent successes.

Glad to see Coach Skalaski getting his props on here. Met him last year while he was in my school recruiting. Bar none he is the best recruiter that comes into our high school. All I can tell you is that he does a great job in Southwest Florida as well.
Classy guy who sells not only the program but the mission as well.
