Ok, since it is a lazy time of year (I don't think any other coaches will be getting fired since there are no teams in season) how about this. IN ORDER rank your top 5 songs from each decade. Sure it is tough, and will take some time, but what the heck else are you doing this time of year?

80's ..................................................................................... 90's

5. Ace of Spades - Motorhead .............................................. 5. *#*$& (From the Last Action hero Soundtack) -Alice in Chains
4. Twilight Zone - Golden Earring ......................................... 4. Interstate Love Song - Stone Temple Pilots
3. Cars - Gary Newman ........................................................ 3. Hold My Hand - Hootie and the Blowfish
2. I Will Follow - U2 .............................................................. 2. Kiss By A Rose - Seal
1. In A Big Country - Big Country ......................................... 1. Black - Pearl Jam

I'd go with (in no particular order)

--- 80's
  • Ace of Spades, Motorhead
    Master of Puppets, Metallica
    Mother, Danzig
Eat the Rich, Motorhead (not Aerosmith's frilly little version)
    Walk this Way, Run DMC
--- 90's
  • I Stay Away, Alice in Chains
    November Rain, Guns N' Roses
    In the Pines, Nirvana
    Jeremy, Pearl Jam
    Red Water, Type O Negative

This is an impossible task. Shouldn't this be left to the professional has-beens at vh1?

The songs that I would list are the ones that I am trying to "cleanse" from my memory.

If you put on a good pair of headphones and listen to that song, you'll notice some really harsh metallic reverb on the drums in the beginning. They set up Dave Grohl's drum kit in a garage, facing the metal door and recorded him in there. That's one of my all time favorite drum sounds of all time. "The Colour and The Shape" is still the best FF album. Not a bad song on there.

I think this has to be one of the toughest questions...here's my lists, though I'm sure I'm forgetting something obvious and I would probably give you 10 completely different songs if you asked me tomorrow, but these were the first to pop into my head (and I tried to hit on the different genres that I like from each decade):

80s:
Cars - Gary Numan
Paul Revere - Beastie Boys
It Takes Two - Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock
Peter Piper - Run DMC
Once in a Lifetime - Talking Heads

90s:
Electric Relaxation - A Tribe Called Quest
Zero - Smashing Pumpkins
I Used to Love H.E.R. - Common Sense (now known as Common)
Frank Sinatra - Cake
Summertime - Sublime

I'll stick with the 90's:

5 - Run Around by Blues Traveler (Perhaps one of the most underrated songs, ever).
4 - Wonderwall by Oasis (classic)
3 - Crash in to Me by Dave Matthews Band
2 - Everybody Hurts by R.E.M

and #1

Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana (can't believe this one hasn't got any love)

For the record, I don't think I can narrow it down to five, but I'll try anyway. In no particular order...

1980's
1. Sweet Child O' Mine - GNR
2. It's Tricky - Run-DMC (Alternate: Rock the Bells)
3. Where Is My Mind? - The Pixies
4. Computer Love - Kraftwerk
5. Texas Flood - Stevie Ray Vaughn

1990's
1. Heart Shaped Box - Nirvana
2. Basket Case - Green Day
3. Sour Times - Portishead
4. Delia's Gone - Johnny Cash
5. Sabotage - Beastie Boys

I picked each of those for a reason, but I don't think that I can just have a Top 5. I love music too much and my list would go on and on. I'll stick with those for now, though.

Pharcyde was one of my favorite groups back in the mid-90s...I'll have to check out that remix.

El Scorch= THat is the fun of it. Just trying to narrow it down, makes it tough. I left out some good ones mentioned:
Oasis although I would have gone with Champaigne Super Nova
GNR - I would have gone with Don't Cry
TOOL - Name it!!
LIVE???

That is what makes it fun. PLus it forces you to pull out the not so standard, i.e. Dexey's Midnight Runner (Not to be confused with RUNNER from Manfred Mans Earth Band) etc group

Schism.

Okay, it was a 2001 recording. But still. Best thing Tool ever recorded.
